Tutorial #4
Historical Digital Painting
Time Spent: 4-5 hours
Note: a bit different this time; not necessarily a novel cover, but a digital painting!
For shading the skin...
STEP 1: Start off with a sort of vector-esque outline of the shape, getting the rough idea of everything's placement. Base layer, everything else will be clipped onto it.
STEP 2: Sketch out the basic placement of her face for reference when I shade.
STEP 3: Basic shading. Use a mixture of Transparent and Opaque watercolor brushes to achieve this effect. Oh, and a lot of Soothing Watercolor blending tool to blend the colors. Use the G-Pen for the base outlining/coloring, but don't use it for shading.
STEP 4: Darker, more contrasting shading for depth. Add highlights and details.
For shading/coloring the rest...
STEP 1: Shade skin.
STEP 2: Shade hair.
STEP 3: Shade clothing.
STEP 4: Shade lantern. (lack of bg for this one bc I removed it to see how the lantern would look)
STEP 5: Draw in background, apply adjustment layers.
