Klepar Instead of writing "thanks", you could just give the chapter 5 stars. It still expresses your appreciation, without clogging up the comments section. What about comments like "first", "second", etc.? Are they really necessary?

But people ALWAYS use the comment section to say Thanks, it's good manners. In like every other novel site. I don't see the point of breaking that habit and honestly I see no end to the Thank you comments ever.

And on the side of the First, Second comments... Humans like competition, they're foolish in that regard, I understand. But people will always want to be first or second or third or fourth. It's a game to them. And I know it's stupid. But it's like, a rite of passage for some people. "Yay, now I'm part of the F5 sect!!" I see no end to this either.

Klepar Well, it could be sorted like reddit, with top comments first, but that wouldn't be really meaningful, since most of the comments don't get any likes. I think it'd work fine if the comments were still in the same order, but the "below threshold" comments would be collapsed into a thin line and could be expanded if someone wants to see them. As for the actual threshold, based on the current activity, I'd say if the number of dislikes exceeds the number of likes by 5+, they would be hidden. This would possibly need adjusting if the userbase grows.

Now I understand what you mean... Or you know what would be cool if there were a sorting setting, you know, so everyone wins... If you want it to be sorted via the likes, then it can happen. That way no one gets to complain.

The default should be the normal order though, and then you can click a button at the side of the comments tab to change how it's being sorted.

Would that work for you?

Klepar A guideline notification upon the addition of the feature does sound reasonable.

Well I'm glad you find a common ground.

Klepar Let's be honest, the current forum isn't really equipped for this. Besides, a lot of people often read many chapters in succession, so having to go the forum each time to search for a specific discussion isn't really practical.

I understand what you mean about the practicality of opening the forum up to discuss, but it actually is a lot easier to work around then the comment section, mostly cause the comment section is very small and tight and doesn't allow for a proper discussion. People also don't normally check the comments very much to respond to others unless they have to for exp...

makes sure to go back to check what the thread was made for in the first place so I'm not preaching to a choir

But I understand what you're talking about in general about sorting and disliking... I still feel like it's a bit much to add a dislike button but the sorting would be helpful so that you only see those that have been liked. So I don't see a problem with it as much...

Maybe what can also be sorted is comments with larger amounts of text, that way those with just one word, like exp, first, etc will be put at the very bottom.

New sorting options for the comments seem like a better fit, and would make it an optional endervour instead of forcing something down your throats. What do you think?

add upon editing or a keyword search/ignore thing could be used too

Klepar Unless there's sarcasm I'm unable to detect, I honestly see nothing good in inflating anyone's egos. You make a good comment โ€” you get likes, you make a blunder โ€” there's always next time.

Also, I think she was just trying to be funny to liven up the thread after my anxiety-ness.

@MichaelChandra adding you since I don't feel like talking about the same thing in two different threads... - x -

Cilliez I will read all replies after reading some chapters because I'm experiencing reading withdrawals of pausing in the middle of a chapter.

Cilliez Same though. One of my reviews has gotten like, 26 likes. I think of it as my greatest achievement. =//u//=

well done my friend, well done

Klepar Instead of writing "thanks", you could just give the chapter 5 stars. It still expresses your appreciation, without clogging up the comments section. What about comments like "first", "second", etc.? Are they really necessary?

guilty, i've done that before. With a lot of novels that i'm currently reading, there's a competition to get first comment for every chapter. to be first, you have to arm yourself with the notion that the position of first could be stolen from you with just one moment of hesitation. so, most people who are first commenters don't actually read the chapter before they comment.
Thus, with no better options at hand, "thanks" or "first" is the best they could do. this, i'm speaking from experience 'cause i've been racking my brain for what to write when i try to get first comment

With the addition of a dislike button, you can also run the risk of making commentators afraid to state their opinion. Especially if likes or dislikes change the EXP received. I do agree with the reddit-like comment section tho, with higher voted comments placing higher and replies nested underneath

Klepar I believe criticism is necessary as well, but I don't think disliking a post constitutes as criticism.

zswaleh maybe you should reply of those "first commenters" and say something along the line of "good for you mthrf&ker, but no body gives a flying f** "

Miya and that was my tot! ๐Ÿ˜คshould have gotten credit for that lol

PearPressure I agree it does not count as criticism.

I think we all need to step back and stop thinking like this is youtube where the community of trolls has been drowned by sheer numbers. We are a small community and it only takes one troll to spoil the barrel.

Trolls love dislike buttons and they feed on their comments being disliked because a dislike does not mean a ban, and helps their cause to say they posted more because they felt they were not being heard if you push for those disliked comments to the bottom.

I say we make a clean break, no dislike button, add a spam flag that stacks up like demerits until they are fired! Most liked comments naturally float to the top as they are popular for a reason.

the only reason someone stops reading to like a comment is because they were actually interested in that comment thus it is deemed more useful than those not read. We don't need a dislike button to filter those meaningful comments to the top and those "useless" thanx to the bottom where translators who are looking for appreciation can be appreciated and do their job by looking at the meaningful comments first lol. Helps translators do their job and gets rid of the random thanx comments no? It's genius!! Also with spam flag you now have troll protection? We all happy?

Miya Well many people did that to me and all I can say that to those people is...**I CONQUERED THIS LAND (comment section in this chapter)AND ALL YER WENCHES BELONG TO ME NOW ...oh yeah it's include your mother so i'm your fourth step father SURPRISE!
Yeah I pretty much don't give a shit

WeebMonsieur as a veteran "first commenter" who worked hella hard to be at the top (all those "refresh" couldn't have been easy) i can say we own the comment section and no hate will conquer our will to triumph
                          :smiling_imp: :military_medal:

Miya lol, i already do something like that, i write exp to them every time, but if it is anything other than first i give a like

I support the idea but frankly am against it, for the sole reason that most people will dislike something not because what somebody says is wrong, but out of petty revenge for daring to have another viewpoint. Dislikes shouldn't be a petty weapon you use to silence other peoples opinions or objective facts, since lets be honest, the thing people hate the most is when people are honest.

So it's heading towards something like a Reddit styled upvote and downvote system?

Miya But my mother told me not to swear, so I don't. What gentle person I am! Besides, I'm practically already a dispenser of solid advice.

Yes i totally agree. Some comments are outright mockery or arguments. You cant quell such guys by replying to their comments, for it fuels them to send scathing replies which turn it into a bigger argument to the point of insults. It Would be great if we can simply downvote such comments

                                2 months later

But someone will use it just for fun. ya know dislikes everything

hehehehehe I usually ignore those spam cause its nothing to do with me but I agree of putting some report button

Miya sorry to but in but the "first" comment is too childish to put it gently and it really does not make the experience better in the community, it is useless, in fact in several other sites that I use it is rather shunned and looked down and people often prefer true comments, also if you have read the chapter there should be something you like isn`t? why not comment about it instead of "first", maybe its because I am used to a kind of places that the "first" has been basically banned, also it will not hurt QI to actually fix the comment section in a way that people can relate and discuss opinions, since after like the 50 first comments is practically imposible to held a true discussion or to input your opinion when the first coment is like #ยท25 and the next comment is #ยท105. And really the dislike bottom is srly needed in here

ordinaryoriole Instead of making them afraid wouln`t that make them think before posting something? And why not make it so that a dislike erase a like and a dislike is erased by a like?. Also letting people write everything they want is not always good, what if there is a troll, and there is always one who give spoilers EVERYDAY or talk trash and the like? In my opinion the dislike button will do more good than harm in the long run
