Yes, this is a problem going on. When I first started writing I received a 3-star rating, but the person said a few things that really helped me grow as an author. I look at it as a dirty stain on my reviews but also appreciate it.

One thing that is misunderstood, is that if you read to the end, but say, go to the first chapter, the reader says you are on chapter 1 or 0. This would make others think that you did not read at all. I have auxiliary chapters that are a Character Reference List or a Monster Manual. If a reader looks at that last before writing a review, then it could make it seem that they did not read the book yet. This should be fixed by Webnovel...

The reviews that worry me more are the ones made by level 1 or 2 people. There is a copy paste review that I have seen going around that is quite cruel. This is it:

After 20 chaps mc is already like one of the strongest in this world. Damn, plot without purpose, illogical to the point when author is even writing what he feels in the middle of the chapter. I can't focus on story when there is idiotic sentence from time to time.

I have seen that review on more than one novel. It is a lie and should be looked at carefully by the Webnovel staff. I have also seen people copy paste a recipe and give a 1-star rating to a novel. That is also a load of poo...

BabyTanuki Exactly and personally I understand when I do reviews I tend to be critical but if I knock off stars for writing quality it means I went through each chapter and listed the errors and spelling mistakes in the comments for the chapter. I also make sure to include that upon correction of those mistakes I will go back and update my review. Another thing I do is with fan fictions I can't bring myself to give a full 5 star rating for character design or world back ground due to the majority of the characters being copies from the original work and the world background not being their own creation. I do make sure to include a personal review of the original characters and any parts of the world that have been changed or original areas of the world that are included in the story. I just hate seeing novels that have potential dropped due to unfair reviews.

InfernalRhage Yeah. I have an author friend who had a few of those troll reviews on his novel. He had a pretty good rating before the whole issue happened. I wanna say 4.7? Anyway, now it is a 4.2 and webnovel isn't doing anything about it. I feel bad for him because we are in the same category and are often times around the same ranking.

The whole drama caused him to decide to wrap up his novel soon (2-3 months).

BabyTanuki It is definitely a shame that this happens unfortunately there is no real way to fix this problem short of the company either hiring a group to review the reviews before they are posted or giving the authors the power to delete reviews that are not done fairly. Neither of these options are really viable sense the company isn't going to spend money they don't have to and the fact that there would be authors who delete every negitive review just to boost their rating.

FujiCigarette That is pretty much what I have been doing on top of making sure to write up an honest review on anything I read weather I enjoy it enough to continue reading it or not.

WN doesnt want any bad reviews so all your reviews have to praising the book even if its trash or they will delete your review
When you have a review system that literally allows anyone to spam reviews you can just see how bad it is
And mosr reviews are crap and talk nothing about the novel that will make the person reading intrested in the novel

Actually i agree that bad reviews with attitude can be allowed , but stupid rewiew like "this sucks" plus one star really annoying

totorodeng123 Pretty much even professional authors like Stephen King get bad reviews. That is just part of being an author, I'm just saying if you are gonna give a novel one star tell me why. I mean is the writing quality bad or is the the story line a mess don't just be all, "it sucks! one star." I also feel giving a well written novel one star simple because you may not of liked it is unfair to the author who put their time and effort into writing a quality novel for others to enjoy.

BabyTanuki Just realized I hadn't read your novel so I will be starting it here in a few and doing a review after getting a good feel for the novel. As a heads up I tend to point out any errors in the comments, as well as any sentences that just don't feel right along with suggestions for those sentences to help them flow better. It's not meant as an insult or dis just my way of trying to help out you can tell me to shut up at any point if it bothers you.

InfernalRhage that's fine. I actually have a discord for that sort of thing if you want to join it. Keep in mind that the first 70-80 chapters I was actually going to go the route of a romance novel, then decided I preferred adventure/fantasy (with romance).
