System novels can perhaps be called a specialty novel type on webnovel.com. On webnovel's front page, you can see many System element translated or original novels every day.
What exactly is a System? China's most veteran editor, Yang Chen (314) recalls the origin of System webnovels:

"The start of System novels originated from more than ten years ago. I think that it was around the year 2004 when some stories about gamer main characters playing fictional games starting becoming popular among book lovers. By that time, leveling up and defeating monsters was already the typical format for webnovels. This all helped to revive the video game novel genre. On the other hand, authors also discovered a new way to write video game novels - what if a game world became real? What would happen if a game player who was familiar with this world entered such a world?

That's right, this is now a major genre underneath the overarching video game novel genre - the game world becoming real genre. And, additional changes to this genre still weren't over yet. The authors considered, since game worlds could be written as real worlds, since abilities, equipment, quests, dungeons and so on could all exist, then why not have them exist in the real world as well?

Why can't a main character also do quests, obtain experience, level up, and purchase items and equipment in the real world?

And so, the System novel genre was born."

Simply speaking, System novels originated from video game novels. And, Systems are a type of cheat in and of themselves. A System is the ultimate and complete form of a cheat power's evolution in novels. Systems can fulfill all the functions of any cheat, although Systems might be unreasonably powerful. Still, readers that find System settings acceptable will love to read System novels.

As of today, System stories are well developed. We hope that everyone can continue creating new and innovative novels that will be even better~

Participate in Victoria's Secret Fashion Show...

Finally, allow your protagonist to become the greatest supermodel alive~ (If you wish to write it, feel free to do so! Take the idea! I'll be very happy to see it!)
