Why do chapters in novels I read lock up again?

I buy spirit stones to read chapters; I use those SS to unlock and read chapters; I later go back to read the story again from an earlier (and unlocked prior) chapter only to find the chapter SS locked again.
WHY?!
Am I to buy the chapter again?!
