New originals typically only have 3 sources of viewers/collections.
1. People that actively search new novels. This is only good for a few days before your book gets buried beneath other new books.
2. Advertising. Whether it be on Webnovel forums, your facebook friends, or any other methods you try.
3. Contest views. If your book is entered into a contest when first started, you'll get viewers from it.
To clarify terminology.
- A view is whenever anyone opens your novel page or chapter. A single view per session. So someone reading your entire book at once would count as 1 view. Someone closing it and reopening it the next day would count as 2 views.
- A collection is whenever someone adds the book to their library to keep reading it.
So how do new authors manage to gain further popularity? There are three methods.
1. If your book is really good, then it will naturally rise through the ranks even if you rarely update it. This is very rare, and you shouldn't expect it.
2. Daily updates. This is the best method for most newbies. Update your novel with at least 1 chapter every day and you'll eventually be selected for the daily update section on the front page. Views and collections will roll in on that day.
3. Trending originals section. Similar to above, except it isn't based on random chance. A curator selects novels to feature for 3 days in trending originals. It can also be applied for through discord, but you'll want a good number of chapters under your belt before trying to apply.
Once you've succeeded at all of the above, you'll probably settle down at your book's natural rank. Views and collections will continue coming in each day, but you'll likely stop climbing in rank. For example, my book typically sits around rank 50. If I'm on trending, then I might rise to around rank 40 for a week.
