Another possibiity is that there may be some, who read what they can afford and that is it. I will occasionally look on the homepage for potential reads to start one day, but because I refuse to buy spirit stones, I can only read so much. And truly if I have to spend SS on even one story I can’t do any others.

Another reason would be having too many ongoing stories. I am currently reading about 7 consistently with a few others that release very irregularly but that is my limit.

But I also fall into that silent reader category that occasionally comments. Mostly because it’s a new idea to ‘talk’ to the translator or author as you read, at least for me.

Author_Shizu not really. i have the same case, too. i am even placing quarter of redeem codes per actual chapter to entice them to comment but there is none. (i have only updated the first chapter tho)

Author_Shizu i don't comment unless I have a lit AF comment to leave. So it's understandable that few users leave comments. It also depends on the chapter if there are twists and turns, or something to piss off the readers, then you'll get flooded by comments.

I face the same problem and have wondered the same. I find I feel more joy when there are comment. I have loyal following in the comment 5-10 once in awhile on different chapter. So I feel your pain.

      What is your novel?

I add novels that I like to the library, but read only when I have time.
I have like 30 or so in my library.....
        I just like them all...
When will I have enough time to read so much.??!!😂
So I will read them, Just donno when....

I have books in my library that I'm not (yet) reading, but they were too few and most are recently added. I'm the kind of a reader that seldom writes any comment. Why? Because I'm satisfied with the flow of events and the twists and turns. I always always always wanted to see the next chapter and bear my thoughts within my head.

If I am updated with the chapter, all I did is move to another novel to read or browse in the comments section of such novel.
I only write some comments if there was really a need to do so. I oftentimes reply to others though, specially when they're spouting nonsense. Lol.
For me, maybe silence was a good sign maybe the readers were like me who is satisfied with your work and cannot see any loopholes therein and that we're bound to wait for the next update holding well our thrilled hearts. 😉

ace_cap If this is true for many, it's making me laugh-cry because it makes for a vicious cycle. Reader interaction and/or support would motivate us to continue -- lack of it would discourage many of us. If readers are waiting to see if we'd continue before supporting us... see where this is going? Ahhh...

I understand where you’re coming from. But I think most readers are like me. I like to read...and yeah, just read. Translated or original, paid or free, I read them as long as I still find the story interesting.

I normally leave a comment when I’m triggered because of what happened in that chapter. Most of the time, I just rate the chapter. When there are lots of chapters (mass release!!! ❤️❤️❤️), I also forget to rate. (So sorry to all authors/translators. This reader here is greedy, and ungrateful.)

Leaving a note in the author/translator box at the end of the chapter encouraging your readers to leave a comment might help. When readers are happy with the story, and the author leaves a message asking for feedback, a simple hello, or whatnot, readers will not hesitate to respond.

We (readers) need reminders that our authors/translators are humans too and needs “nourishment” - likes, comments, gifts, and sometimes, votes! We only know how to ask (where’s my next chapter?) as if the authors/translators owe us. (Yes, I’m like that too sometimes.) We (subconsciously) have this mentality that “it’s your job to write/translate, so I’ll just wait here for your update.” without giving back.

It should be give and take, the basic of any relationship. So just leave a message/note. Readers will respond. 🙂

Just keep it up and don’t be disheartened. As long as you’re happy writing, continue doing so.

Good luck, and happy new year! 🎉
