I understand where you’re coming from. But I think most readers are like me. I like to read...and yeah, just read. Translated or original, paid or free, I read them as long as I still find the story interesting.
I normally leave a comment when I’m triggered because of what happened in that chapter. Most of the time, I just rate the chapter. When there are lots of chapters (mass release!!! ❤️❤️❤️), I also forget to rate. (So sorry to all authors/translators. This reader here is greedy, and ungrateful.)
Leaving a note in the author/translator box at the end of the chapter encouraging your readers to leave a comment might help. When readers are happy with the story, and the author leaves a message asking for feedback, a simple hello, or whatnot, readers will not hesitate to respond.
We (readers) need reminders that our authors/translators are humans too and needs “nourishment” - likes, comments, gifts, and sometimes, votes! We only know how to ask (where’s my next chapter?) as if the authors/translators owe us. (Yes, I’m like that too sometimes.) We (subconsciously) have this mentality that “it’s your job to write/translate, so I’ll just wait here for your update.” without giving back.
It should be give and take, the basic of any relationship. So just leave a message/note. Readers will respond. 🙂
Just keep it up and don’t be disheartened. As long as you’re happy writing, continue doing so.
Good luck, and happy new year! 🎉
