RenuKakkar Okay sure, but it’s my first time doing a review swap and I don’t write reviews that often so please bear that in mind😅😓, I’ll check out ur novel as soon as possible, I’ve been rather busy lately😅

Chryiss dunno. I'm on a small number too. Ironically, gaining more collections than views these days. Seem scrappers are done with me. Readers are waiting for more, maybe an ending to start reading. I aim to have 90% Sunflower done over break. Getting into it now.

Angelyay Terms (like how many chapters you’re going to read and the depth of the review) varies between the two people involved, but basically you give a review on someone’s story and that person in turn reviews your story.

Reviews talk about the story in general, sometimes split into plot, characters, and writing. Say what you thought was good, needs to be improved, and maybe suggestions how to improve it. Usually people just talk about the story in general and what they like/dislike.

Most people don’t read all the chapters posted when they review. The norm is around 5-10 I suppose. Personally, I think anything less than 20 is pointless but eh, my opinion. Ofc, new stories usually have few chapters.

It's time to start keeping track of my stuff since I've been stressing about this. My fetus self would love to get contracted one day. How on earth do I get more collections and views help.

Peerless Doctor: The Rise of a Phoenix 137:1
    47.7k/348
    21 Chapters

Lightning Descends by Her Will 72:1
    8189/113
    5 Chapters

Crowns are for the Heroines 72:1
    1880/30
    2 Chapters

      Hyowha

      359k view / 669 collections = 537:1

Is that good or bad or normal? The higher the ratio, the better? Or the lower it is the better?

I don't know how the view thing works in relation to the collections, and I've basically just been keeping track of collections and votes. Views are beyond my understanding. I mean, I know it relates to people viewing a chapter but other than that?

      ¯_(ツ)_/¯

PsyberRose Lower numbers of views is what you'd be wanting. 10:1 would be God numbers, meaning that for every 10 views, one person added the story to their collection. That's roughly every single person who looks at the book. Of course, don't know any story that has reached 10:1. So, 100: 1 is better than 200:1.

Veronica8 Ah! Thanks! I'll just make myself happy looking at the collection and votes then, rather than the view ratio. hehehe.

Chryiss To be honest, this is the first time I posted my a link to my novel on a forum thread. From when I first started until when I posted it up there, I didn't advertise nor did I do any review swap.

That said, all my collection came from people liking my novel lol. To get collections, just make your story good or have a unique twist. I still think that my collections are too low compared to others...

Done & dusted  Oddly, more collection adds vs view gains.

chonnie I’d help, but I can’t. XD I’m clueless on the collections.

Alliosis Thanks for the input! Good is a little vague though, and thinking more about it, I came to realize something. While I can’t say this is true for your story since I haven’t read it, but I tend to find the truly more unique stories much less popular. That’s not to say those more mainstream stories are bad as it’s just the readers’ preferences. But I do see that more popular stories have many overlapping elements done in similar ways. Some have a spin on the classic trope, but in general, I have yet come across one that’s truly niche and different and be very popular.

Another way of reframing this is that I’ve found equally well written and told stories with solid characters, plot, and world, but the ones I eventually see become popular are the ones with video games, cultivation or leveling, revenge/face slapping, romance, rich and OP, domineering leads, (sadly true) abusive relationships, reincarnation or transmigration, etc elements in them. Sometimes I don’t understand, but then I do. Idk really. *shrugs

It just seems the ones that go about something in a fresh way don’t get the applause they really deserve for pulling something off well. Like I just did a review swap for one, and while it’s a new story, it’s legit done way better than *cough a lot that I’ve read of anything remotely similar.

Ack. This is way longer than intended. I’m talking to myself really lol. I just wish I could do more to put such stories in the limelight and be able to find them easier too. :/ I can only take so much of the same stuff even if well done. 😅

Chryiss oof im interrupting but that is so true
there are some seriously good stories out there, but they're all hard to find. Audience likes to eat up stuff like romance/ceo/cliched tropes. TBH i think there should be a section for underappreciated novels, where it depends on grammar/plot/characterization. Although, I don't think that would ever happen TwT

                  Another update!

I was away for a couple of days and didn't update, but when I came back I was so shocked LOL

                  It's still around the 30:1 ratio TwT I'm so pleased,,, my heart can't take this much support too... PS all coming in too as well as a couple reviews, but it seems like they're spam reviews so I can't say much;;;

                  IEIWE- 27:1

Chryiss Nup. All good. You're telling it like it is.

There are lots of compelling stories that aren't popular on this site.

Let's face it you don't have to use much of your brain to read common, popular ones. I'm not dissing on popular well-known tropes, but you honestly can switch off and enjoy the ride when you read, cause you already know what's coming up. You've experienced it before in some other novel. So, the experience is just a carry on thrill from the last one.

With left-field stories, not so common tropes, you do have to use all your burners to decipher what is going on. Especially when your expanse and experience of the world is limited. Thankfully we have Google-sensei these days.

chonnie Sorry, I'm still in the undiscovered range myself. It's a lot of trial and error to find a buying and advocating audience. 95% of success will boil down to luck (right time and place) situation when it comes to writing.

Some stories that I know started a month ago are already contracted, because they write to a known formula and are good at it. They easily appealed to masses who became their advocates.

You're probably in the same boat as me. I write a story I want to write and believe in.

                  So keep at it.

Heh, my 4200:1 is now down to 4600:1 :D

Well, I just finished it and it'll be downhill from here on. Waiting to break the 10000:1 barrier ;)

PsyberRose The views on webnovel are slightly broken but if you have a lot of views like in your example 300k+ views but less than 1000 collections it could mean that people read your novel but don't add it to their library

Veronica8 Yeah but if you have just published the novel you will most likely have a low ratio but you can't really get any accurate results unless the novels has been out for 1month+ to be honest.
