maybe I am just lucky but I have not seen much evidence of this though I guess I am not obsessed with numbers to the point of jumping out of the narrative to double check some stats or calculations the main characters may be involved in

FilledWithHope That's a broad statement is it not? Though I've seen a bit of both where some complicated equation was utilized or just some checking balances; I don't think that equates that you saying over half the writers don't know math.

FilledWithHope It’s a little bit much to make such a generalization with the small amount of Chinese authors here compared to the whole world... Personally, I’ve found asians (I admit though another generalization) to be some of the most mathematically strong when considering ethnicity... Perhaps it’s because these people are writers first, so there’re more mistakes? At least living in the US, their curriculum is more rigorous on average than ours. In the end, I’m here for the story, not a math class.

Also, after writing a system novel for the first time, there really is a lot quantitative planning and calculation necessary; I can see how slip ups are made.

FilledWithHope ive seen a couple errors, nothing to label it as "all authors cant even do simple math" though. Then again im not calculating everything in my head to see if its correct. Just there to read.

At least i have seen 3 chinese novel(i have read more than 20) have miss math. But you know author in novel is god so remember rule.
      No. 1 author always right
No. 2 reader must respect author
No. 3 if author do mistake back to rule no. 1

(it is joke from my place, if someone claim never Wrong)

FilledWithHope He is totally correct. over 75% of the LNs I have read have forgotten how much money they gave the MC or forgot how to subtract 3million yen from 12 million yen and somhow get 500k yen left. LMAO this kind of stuff happens all the time. I've had it where the author said the MC uped his stats from 12 to 13 (a +1) and then 3 chapters later complain that he is not able to do such and such ability until his stat went up to 13 and then went and used his new stat point from the level he just gained 5 sec ago to level that stat up. Now this MC is short an entire stat point because it took 2 levels to get the same stat point. The authors throw out RANDOM numbers to show "HEY he made big money" and then say they spent some money and now they want the MC to be BROKE so say "Oh man now he is broke after spending 30 yen". They fudge and finesse everything to make a BIG SPLASH while constantly telling us how much money they have at every new thing they pick up in the woods and sell off at the market to show how awesome the MC is. All so that they can ignore it all in the very next chapter. It is almost like Clickbait.

People really should go look at TV Tropes. There is a whole series of tropes for things writers are bad at. Writers are human and make mistakes. Some make less than others, but all make mistakes.

CKtalon When majority have shitty math, it is hard to find ones with an acceptable level of math. An example of normal level math would be Forty Millenniums of Cultivation. Nothing impressive, but author atleast doesn't fck up basic elementary level math like so many others. Like seriously, it is so rare to find a wn without basic math mistakes that only those that doesn't have mistakes stay in my mind. Normally bad experiences would be so much more memorable, but when almost everything is a bad experience you start to only remember the rare good encounters...

Yeah, it can get very confusing... like they traveled to this place for six months, fought with that group for another six months, traveled again for 1 year, then spent 3 months finishing this task. And then at the end of it all it says they've been away for 1.5 years. Huuuh??? Sometimes I wonder if it's the author or the translator/editor who's at fault.

SorcererCat Not to mention that in some novels the MC teleports 1000 miles because of some skill to demonstrate how fast he is in the fight and then later he has to travel 10 000 miles and it takes him like 2-3 months. I am like WTF happened to his speed?
