I checked in today but i only get ss and no exp. Not to mention that the ss it gives is so small

Yes? What they give varies.
During weekdays it's mostly just SS no EXP (or just EXP no SS - but they don't seem to do it lately). During the weekends, it's SS AND EXP

zeazea One or two days during the week, you may not get SS at all. There is a chance that you'll only get PS. Or only XP.
That is how they were able to add "bonus" rewards to the weekend check-ins without increasing how many SS a person was able to earn on average over longer periods. (It seems any change that is presented as a way to earn "more" SS is generally just a change that redistributes the SS that you were already able to get. Or even reduces it.)
