Heya Folks
Many of us here are just dipping our hands in writing stories that we think we are good at or write as a hobby. Some of us have dreams that we'll be published authors down the road.
There are so many stories out there on webnovel translations as well as originals.

So, my questions are :

How do you guys cope if someone is too brutal in their criticism for your writing ?(let's be honest here - no matter how polite we are, all of us give our time to write the best we can and it's hard work, therefore, when people start saying things in a too blunt way we do get hurt especially, on the net since we don't have visual clues to go with it. We just read those few sentences and sometimes they bring you down)

Do you feel a bit peevish when you see other stories have so many views and reviews and comments as compared to your own?
(I do feel a bit jealous sometimes when I see a few stories on here with bad sentence structures, wrong grader garner ore attention)

On a side note the story am currently writing is titled Quick Transmigration - Counter Attack of Various Characters

Synopsis : Su Li dies of a chronic illness and her soul is bound to a system. Now this could be considered a blessing in disguise. Though skeptical and wary, she still decides to put her best foot forward.

She completes her assigned tasks earnestly keeping in mind not to let anyone catch on to the fact that the genuine goods have been overtaken by her. However, she soon realises that someone keeps following her from one world to another.

Slowly but surely she tries to figure out the reason for all of this world hopping business. Will she be able to get rid of the shackles placed on her by the system? Will she repudiate her deal with the system? Will she find out the answers to all her doubts and questions or will silence and melancholy be her only answer?

Will she find out the answers to all her doubts and questions or will silence and melancholy be her only answer? Only time will tell but untill then she needs to pull up her socks and get down to the business of counter attacking in lieu of various characters - cannon fodder, second female lead, main character, anti heroine, villainess etc.

It is hard, but necessary, to grow thick skin when you put your work out there. It's also important to remember everyone is at different stages of their journey. If you’re brand new to writing, reading extremely critical reviews is going to hurt quite a bit, even if the reviewer is being fair at pointing out your weaknesses. We all have them, but it can be devastating to many at first.

For most, while their first novels are a necessary step in strengthening their craft, they are usually not very good. That’s okay, and it’s good to embrace the fact that you’re learning along the way. The fear of not getting the draft perfect can impede a person's ability to write just as much as a critical review. For brand new authors It might help to join critique forums or find beta readers, because the underlying motive here is that you’re helping each other identify weak spots and vulnerabilities. The crits can still hurt, but their done in a more private environment and the focus is on helping you write the very best story that you can.

For those who are more experienced, growing thicker skin is a necessity if you want to put out work consistently. If stories were desserts, you may have created the most mouth-watering triple chunk chocolate cookies known to man. However, if you come across someone who only likes to eat blueberry cheesecake, it won’t matter. Finding your audience will help with those reviews, because the people that are there reviewing really love those cookies you’ve made. (It goes without saying that it’s a very good idea to figure out your audience before you start. Being well read in the genre you’re writing in helps.)

At this point, I've found that being completely honest with myself is what has helped the most. If I come across a more critical review and I start to get defensive, I try to figure out why. Was it an apple pie person who decided to try the pumpkin pie I’m offering and it just didn’t suit their taste, or did the reviewer point out where my writing could have been better and stronger? I ignore the first batch and focus on the second. I also focus on making sure everything aligns with the heart of the story.

The other thing that’s really helped me—and is still a work-in-progress—is continuing to hone and sharpen my skills. Rather than going over the same novel over and over, I try to keep learning and apply what I’ve learned in the next book. Even though my novels are imperfect (typos seem to breed in the dark when I'm not looking), I can honestly say that each one I write is the very best I could make it at that time.

And I’m learning to be okay with that. :)

I'm actually fine with criticisms. As long as they're constructive and that they actually point out the faults in my work. What I'm peeved about are those 3stars or lower reviews that only contains emojis. They don't really tell you anything. And it simply lowers the overall rating of a story. Especially when the emojis are numerous this '🖒' or numerous that '❤'. It's ironic to write those and give a low rating. Actually, it doesn't makes sense at all. If they're just doing it for the exp they would gain, then I wish they won't do it on my expense. 😅

Tyramisu And I just learned recently that people give 1 star bombs just because they’re worried about certain genres over taking others. Reviews are definitely messed up here.

Chryiss Wow. That's new. Why would they worry about something like that? 😅 I mean, everyone has a preferred genre thay wanted to read. People should just respect that. Makes me remember this one time, I wrote this BL here (only one chap) and someone gave it 1 star just for it being BL. He or she literally wrote that he or she hates gay people. 😕 I reported it and good thing it got deleted.

I agree with your points. All constructive criticism is good to help you fix your mistakes and improve your writing quality but still sometimes it's just too over the top the moment when you read that criticism for the first time though, later on you think back to it and don't mind much.

All's well that ends well and all that rot aside, sometimes you just want to have a physical contact with the reviewer with your hand and their face lol

              Tyramisu
The daily exp of writing a review has really messed the ratings of many stories here on webnovel.

                Chryiss
Idiots the lot of them. :)
Not everything is everyone's cup of tea. Why poke your nose into something you don't even appreciate?

I usually try avoiding running reviews on genres I dislike. When I do (for example a review swap) I try to make it clear early on that: it's not my cup of tea, that I'll attempt to read it as if I liked that genre, but eventually some of my preconceptions are bound to bleed through anyway.

Litrpg comes to mind. Status displays and powerlevels just don't blend well with character and world development. Probably because you use those status displays instead of having the reader experience growth. It's not even a bad thing. It's supposed to be that way, but there's just no way I'll be able to hand out a glowing review in those departements.
