Depends on the type of story for me. For instance, the only novel I consider a serious work of writing is my mainly Fantasy MWTL story mixed with a slew of other equally important genres. The thought process and language quality on this one is definitely mich higher than my others. Even if I don’t include the lengthy rewrite process of my first two dozen chapters which boosted the word count by 10k, or the years of planning out and sketching characters and other graphics before I even began typing it on my computer, this one still takes more time on average than my causal or semi-serious writing. Approx.: 3-4 hours for 1.5-2k word chapter.
While my other romance sci-fi fantasy about reincarnating as tree due to a contest prompt is not the same level of writing quality, because it’s a System novel, I spend way more time calculating math that makes leveling growth logical as well as other facets like skills. Thus, oddly enough, this takes longer overall if the chapter has more game content than story content; even though, the writing portions are shorter. Approx.: 2-4 hours for 1-2k word chapter.
My last is the most casual, a fan fiction. This one took some research of real world events and times/schedules, so like the tree story it was longer for such sections requiring references. Those that didn’t, a 1k+ chapter could take only an hour. With it, maybe add up to another hour.
I personally feel I write much too slow, especially with the first serious one. There’re so many allusions, easter eggs, and overall more symbolism in that story which makes it tricky to keep tightly togther so that the plot unfolds how I want. Not to mention, visual imagery and human struggle are super important for the world vision I have for it, so I sometimes just sit and stare at the screen while brooding upon it. XD
Edit: Fudge. This came put way longer than I intended or imagined. I wrote a freakin’ rambling essay. 😅
