2020 Webnovel is hiring Content Editors for our Singapore office!
I am INDIAN & studying polytechnic but i am interested for this post
how come the link given cant be access
StenDuring No shit.
Iβm also working in IT and definitely see a lack of real management material or lack of technical backgrounds in management. It is pretty scary when your CTO and CIO want cyber security to be a focus, but donβt even listen to their techs who are Certified Ethical Hackers.
As for Qidan and Webnovel... donβt they know they have members in their audience who are not just native English speakers, but endlessly frustrated ones? At times, I wish I could just offer my assistance for free for my favorite novels. Itβs so damned frustrating to have to mentally translate all the poor verb choice and tense usage. Even those that are supposedly edited!
To be honest the worst mistakes in IT-management occur when you pick leaders based on technical skills over people skills. A good leader will listen to people and use a pretty well developed gut-feeling for when bullshitting is in the air -- hence the need for actual technical skills are of pretty low priority.
The absolutely worst train wrecks I've seen are honest and hardworking, guaranteed superb techies, who are elevated into management. They immediately start by 'merely' requiring everyone else to do what they're able to do themselves, which is a bloody disaster when you just kicked your best developer into a management position. To add insult to injury, your best developer material in an organisation are unlikely to be very good at handlig people -- they're too damn busy keeping up with being the best programmer to bother with being able to socialize.
As for Webnovel and language standards; I've long since given up even pretending...

Angko Do you have something against Singaporeans or something? So they should just hire Europeans and Americans? They set up a branch in Singapore, of course they would want to hire locals to work in the branch there. Or are you saying they shouldn't be allowed to set up a branch in Singapore?
So if I'm Singaporean, I can't fulfill anything in regards to customer service, my behavior as an employee would somehow be unsatisfactory, and...I don't even know what prices have to do with my nationality?

StenDuring To provide context, Singaporeans are native English speakers, and the majority of the population are ethnically Chinese, which means they can speak Chinese fluently (I'm terrible at it, though).
Webnovel and Qidian are China-based, which means the upper management probably speaks mostly Chinese, hence their preference for Chinese speakers.

Yup. As long as the English is of sufficient standard everything is fine. My primary rant was that if you hire someone to do work in a specific domain of competence, then preferably you should focus your requirements to that domain rather than an associated but secondary one.
Basically it should have read as expertise in English and working knowledge in Chinese.

StenDuring I think that was precisely what it said? Unless I'm misunderstanding something?
- First English Language speaker (expertise in English)
- Fluent Chinese speaker (Mandarin) is preferred (because of working environment)
I could have interpreted it mistakenly, but I thought given the context, it was pretty clear.
Ah, I see that it's been edited since my original rant :D
Now it does indeed follow a preferred pattern.
StenDuring I see. I didn't see the original version.

Interesting. I enjoy reading and analyzing literary pieces and I'm an English major. However, Filipino is my first language and I don't speak nor understand Mandarin.
Sunnnyy interesting! I'm good at analyzing literary pieces since I'm an English major, but I don't speak nor understand Mandarin. Filipino is my first language.
I am (kinda) confident about my English speaking skills, but sadly I do not know how to speak Chinese, unless I'll have my cousins do the translation (yeah, luv u couz. You guys helped me in understanding Chinese words I wanted to know). My major... is too far from English literature but I sometimes helped my friends with that major in writing (stories and scripts sometimes). I love reading: educational books, webnovels, lightnovels, comics and anything that captures my attention (though currently I am burying myself in reading webnovels). I am a quick learner (or I am just too confident?) and I (thankfully) can communicate well with other people especially with similar interests (even if you're a stranger, as long as we have something in common, I'd be engaging in a conversation with you even if you do not introduce yourself )
Unfortunately I am not from Singapore, I am from Philippines.
But if the oppurtunity arises, why not? Maybe I'll start learning Mandarin with my cousins.
Angko what's wrong with choosing Singaporean ? Most of us here speak English and Chinese as first language. English and Chinese are being used as main language for most of us. And our education system using English as the primary language. What better person who can do editing a Chinese novel ? Of course a person that proficient on both languages
I SPEAK PRETTY GOOD ENGLISH, THOUGH I'M CURRENTLY WORKING AS ADMIN EXECUTIVE LOOKING FORWARD TO A JOB CHANGE AND I'M PASSIONATE ABOUT READING AND ANALYZING NOVELS SOMTIMES SPECULATING AHEAD OF NOVELS TOO
Please how do I apply for these job?
