Hyowha Honestly George R. R. Martin is not behaving in a professional manner towards his readers. I'm one of them and, if he had written "I don't know if I will ever complete this book series", I would never buy one of his books. When a writer starts a series, readers rightly expect the author writes the ending of the book series, not that he would drop it.
maryf Having said that, however, there are other factors should be taken into account on webnovel. Webnovel doesn't pay well authors (webnovel pays them very poorly to be fair), so the majority of contracted authors has another "real" job to pay bills and food. This has serious consequences about dropping novels/constant uploads.
Webnovel should pay writers not only based on spirit stones purchased with real currency (free spirit stone give 0 money to authors), as is happening now , but instead every contracted author should get a fair fixed wage and a percentage of the profits (spirit stones). Now many writers drop novels everyday cuz they write everyday, but if readers don't pay them with many sold ss, they don't gain nothing and even if they gain some money a month, they could gain nothing the next month even if they write 30 or 60 chapter monthly, so they never have economic security.
This company "is over charging" readers and authors, so its behaviour is the real problem.
