Why is the updated APP asking for the device's location?
Why does it matter and how does it stand into the privacy policy by Qidian?

They probably want to know some stats on their user base. Maybe if all the readers are in Australia or something they'll change release times.

Texugo It's part of the risk control. Currently, SS is kind of your real assets, if the system detects your location info abnormally changed, the SS transaction will be under a high level monitoring.

Also, most of the risk involved in the SS transaction is one sided by paypal and all the risk analysis is done by them, isn't it?
Texugo Both, both App and payment channel take the risk control. Otherwise how does Paypal know where u are currently staying? Aside, the premission will be requested in the very beginning when u installed the App. It's part of the Android policy, no app could skip or hide the request
Ney Yes it is. If u always move around, ur transaction will be always risky. You won't really feel anything different, it's just a back ground risky control. In your case, we will let payment channel know that the user is risky and payment channel will monitor the certain transaction carelly. For the App, we don't keep anything of your payment info. What we did is sending over all requested info to payment channel.
Well, I am a proud root user, and just bulldoze my way to remove the access that I deem unnecessary.
Also, always block tracker on your desktop / laptop browser, that shit is the seed of ridiculous ads.
