It's really disappointing to see bad grammar and spelling mistakes all over a chapter. If there's no editor or even if there is a good one who overlooked a couple things, could qi let the readers help out with a way to report errors with suggestions for corrections and reward these people with SS/badges/exp/PS/ES/something (if they provided a valid, accepted correction) for their efforts?

Maybe it would stop some complaints of SS inflation if the chapters read more like error free native English and if there were meaningful ways to earn SS.

For example:
10 spelling errors = 1 SS
10 punctuation errors = 1 SS
5 conjugation errors = 1 SS
1 phrasing fix = 1 SS

Periodically, Qi could check their records and try to recruit the top contributors of complex fixes as actual editors which would increase the overall quality of the site.

Perhaps to avoid spam edits, only corrections that have been flagged a certain number of times should be reviewed, and allow users to vote on suggested corrections.

Definitely a good idea and I support it. SS is not even necessary in my opinion.
As long the the errors are gone the reading experience will improve significantly .
    Respect +

KoraL Who will actually check the massive influx of people sending error lists? This idea can't work.

Well, it may work if QI builds an in chapter system that lets people select certain words in the chapter to correct. Then the most repeated corrections made by people can be automatically sent to the editor after a day. The editor can then choose the best option to correct the error. The people who got their correction chosen can then get an ss. This is the only way it can work. Doing it on the forums or chapter chat would just be impossible. Forums would be filled with translation correction posts all day and there would be many duplicate ones.....

N0xiety it's up to @WEBNOVEL_OFFICIAL how they want to implement it, but in-line/word-highlighting flagging would optimal.
Others who flag the same words/phrases would get to see already suggested corrections and vote on them. Flags would have a drop down reason (spelling, grammar: punctuation, grammar: run-on, grammar: verb tense, grammar: other, confusing phrasing, other), text box for suggested correction, and already suggested corrections for voting. Identical text for suggested correction would count as a vote. Parts with a critical amount of flagging along with highly up voted corrections would get sent to the editor or translator or a team of moderators for approval. System should award first poster of accepted correction and maybe a thank you notification to flaggers. That way, readers can see that their feedback is appreciated. If the reviewer disagrees with a flag, they can also use this notification to explain why their corrections were rejected.

This of course would take time and programmers to develop. Readers who aren't interested in participating should also be allowed to turn off this feature if it would mean a faster/better reading experience for them. Readers who would love to see their favorite novels become more readable should be encouraged to participate.

If they choose to implement this through other means (not as a temporary measure) which are not easy for readers or users, then that just shows their lack of commitment towards their user base.

Nope, never gonna happen, not a chance.
There are 2 reason for this.
      1. They will never, ever, in any circumstance, give more SS than they are giving now.
      2. Not enough resource to put the crowd source editing, might as well recruit some editor.

KoraL I too am disappointed with the bad English and grammar but the human mind is so unique that it will correct those words or phrases that sounds weird so it is alright for me xD

As for SS, they had cut the amount of SS given and implemented a lottery chance of the check-in SS rather then a fixed one like the old days.

Would they give more free SS? I honestly doubt so.

They did say that they will have some ads for free SS but..... actions speak louder than words xD

I think the best bet would be to have one fixed post on a Novel with a small title (Errors) or (Mistakes) or something so that people can post there rather than creating new threads.

GregLuck I'm trying to be optimistic.

          1. I suggested SS since it would probably get more participation. I'm sure there are people out there who would do it for a nifty badge.

          2. They value 200 words at 1 SS per reader. If they decide to use 20 flags as the critical mass for edits, then at the rates I'm suggesting, that's about 50% error rate for revenue loss! At that point, yeah, they really do need to hire an editor or learn to use spell check. Also, keep in mind that 1 SS is worth between $0.01 and $0.008.

If they are seeing "unacceptable" losses, then they're probably paying too much for shoddy work in the first place.

immortal_corrupt The SS for ads isn't "free"; they get money when you watch ads.
The SS for editing won't be free either; they'll be paying (cents) for editing services.

CKtalon They could avoid spam edits by requiring a certain amount of agreement from other readers (votes). They could define a critical mass as the greater of 5% of readers or 20 votes.
If people start colluding, then they have a very different problem. And reviewers could be given the power to ban spammers from flagging edits after 3 or so attempts.

CKtalon or QI can limit a certain amount of edit request every chapter. like 3-5 request only per chapter. If the request is approved less request limit. If rejected just keep the current request limit. This is to control the flow of incoming request. And can add an option that certifies the chapter error free that will automatically remove the edit request.

ChaoticHarmony easier way is to have an edit request page for each chapter. Everyone can submit request to edit changes and also vote other requests. It is only required for editors to look into the requests once, which is 7 days after initial chapter release. Webnovel can limit ss to be given only to the top 10 most important edit requests (as voted by readers), 7 days after the chapter's release. Editors can also vote and reply on the importance of edit requests in the same page.

A good way to make the site better :D but I think it will be flooded and they will have a hard time examining it one by one and also there will be repeated comments so not all can be granted SS. A good suggestion tho with a high chance to be applied. :D :D

Sounds like a good idea, not sure how it could be implemented. I do get tired of seeing typos in a release, especially when it is an old release that the editors aren't looking at.

I would be okay if they didn't reward the correction, just add a select + right click option to easily report a typo. Let the editor make the changes.

If there is too much garage, just work it like a voting system and only forward typos that have been reported by previously known good users, user voting or by a cutoff number of reports.

Side note: I wish Qidian representatives would actually reply to suggestions.... Do they even read the forum?

The typo report could automatically include the surrounding paragraph/sentence for context and the editor could just correct the mistake and hit submit. Make it an extra backend module for the editors/translators or hire a dedicated person.

You could have all the suggestions go through a user critic before the editor sees them, I think the previous idea of a badge/exp/ss would get plenty of people willing to filter through the reports and peer-review them. Just dedicate a part of the site to suggested corrections. People can drift through and use thumbs up/thumbs down to filter the actual reports (have the report highlight the error for ease of use). Even better, replace the exp for reviewing a chapter with this; that would take care of two problems at the same time.

Olivia Many of the early chapters of some novels are rife with typos. Better make a list already.

XD i just suggested something like this in another topic

ive always thought it was weird how i get to a chapter and theres 99+ comments but not a single one of them mentions a really obvious mistake like a wrod spelled wrong :P

if it was being kept simple up/down vote works since they have the coding for it and just need to set it there.

Pizza and they wont get fixed even if you comment on them. a lot of early chapters, even more if its brought in from another source, are basically ignored so if you bring it up in a comment or topic they dont get fixed.

Aranwen1 Indeed. I was really happy that HN1F was picked up. That was until I read it. I skipped the chapters which had been translated by the previous translator before being dropped, so I've no clue as to whether they just used those or translated them. After those chapters though, there were a ton of typos & as if that wasn't enough some chapters seemed to be mtld (at least in my opinion).

CKtalon Any chance of getting some form of this in the works? As previously stated, rewards are not mandatory.

I have submitted grammar and typo suggestions for free previously and as long as you give an easy route to submit them then I will gladly do so again. Give us a route and make it easy on the editors, that's all I'm asking for. Rewards are a bonus if suitable to the overall design and again are not mandatory.

Thanks to Neverfire7 for the response!

A lot of users are on mobile, so any form of making it easier to suggest edits would be greatly appreciated. I'm not so proactive as to wait until the end of a chapter to recall all typos and awkward phrasing, but if I could do it in line, then I would absolutely contribute.
I know I suggested the SS, but since it's not likely to even see a badge for this, how about for the warm fuzzies of knowing that these edits make the chapters more readable for the rest of the users?

                        Edit: tagging @WEBNOVEL_OFFICIAL

APassingMe You can always go to the discord channel in #suggestions_bug_feedback and post the chapter and the line that is problematic. (look above this page for the link). It's easier to keep track of issues there than on the forum with the high traffic.

That's not ideal for ease of use but still something, I will try to do that for now. Still hoping that something more permanent is implemented! Thanks!

Edit: I logged in but it looks like you, CKtalon, are the only translator who is online there. Will that get the attention of the other editors as well or should this be for just your novels?
