As a reader, I love it. I have an option to take a sneak peek into the next few chapters.
As an author, I hate it because I need to write a lot to have those privileges and I am a lazy person
Privileg: you have to pay to be able to pay for chapters that are already translated for which you normally only have to pay once to unlock.
Privileg is just a way to rip you off twice
To clear up misunderstandings on privilege. You are paying for early access, not to unlock a second paywall or get ripped off twice. I understand that you want early access for free, but that's not how it works. This system is based off Patreon where basically donors are divided into several tiers. Obviously the people who donate more get "privileges" - and this includes early access to more chapters.
If you can't stand waiting and want to read it as soon as possible, go ahead and pay double. But if you're going to complain about being ripped off, then don't pay for privilege. It is optional. The privilege chapters will become accessible to you eventually. If you don't want to pay, then be patient and wait. Privilege chapters don't remain privilege forever.
No one is ripping you off, nor is anyone forcing you to pay you extra. If you're impatient and can't wait to read the next chapter, that's your problem. Don't start whining about Webnovel being a "fraud" or "ripping you off" when you're the one who has trouble waiting for the chapters to become accessible. Don't want to pay extra? Wait. Want early access? Pay for it.
Otherwise, why don't you go to Patreon and start calling them a fraud and demand "equal" treatment for all donors?
a_despondent_bear I purchase privilege for the novels that I like to give the authors/translators a bonus for their hard work. I think it's a good way to boost their morale.
And as Tomoyuki said, it's optional. You don't have to purchase it if you don't want to or can't afford it. It shouldn't affect the reading experience of the regular readers.

You pay for privilege, but still have to pay to unlock the chapters (that is in the description of privilege) so you have to pay for another paywall (well you pay to have the first paywall earlier)
the difference to the past is that if you paid through patreon you did not have to pay again to read the chapters earlier, you paid to early access the chapter, not to early access the paywall to the chapter
