a few conspiracy theories pt. 1
yes, this will likely have multiple parts... because I love my conspiracies. :tea:
(none of these are proven facts though; just some speculations on my side! if you can prove me wrong, please do)
CONSPIRACY #1: when webnovel ranks novels in the popularity section of explore by genre, they rank it not only by views, collections, rank, etc., but also by if the story has locked chapters or not.
I came up with this theory b/c although I have been contracted, I still have a long way to go until I lock chapters (probably at 200 chapters or so). however, I noticed that though I have better stats than other novels in the genre (more views, higher ranking, more collections, more reviews, more comments, more gifts), I'm still behind a lot of novels with lesser stats. the only reason I could fathom for why this occurs, after careful observation, is that these novels have a bunch of locked chapters and I don't--
so I believe this is webnovel's subtle psychological way of trying to get me to lock chapters?
tl;dr: webnovel's system believes that contracted novels with locked chapters are more "popular"
CONSPIRACY #2: the language barrier makes 50% of people seem ruder than in reality.
came up with this theory b/c i noticed that there are a loooot of (no shade) very impolite people on webnovel. they speak in a pretty crude manner, and I believe that in turn, this makes them seem very rude/demanding/entitled. either that, or it's truly their personality that's rude, but it might be b/c so many people on here don't speak english well.
this wasn't that dramatic of a "conspiracy theory"-- more like an observation?
on another note that I just thought of, why does webnovel have so many international readers that don't speak english well in the first place? did they go through a period of promotion/marketing in these countries that a lot of readers/writers come from? (e.g. philippines, indonesia) and why do these authors who can write much better/fluently in their native language choose to make a living/write in english, on webnovel? purely curious.
CONSPIRACY #3: webnovel "fake boosts" novel stats in daily report.
especially with collections. every day, in the "daily report" that authors receive about how their novel is doing, my main novel always says something like +200 in collection. yet I've been observing my inkstone stats, and I started with 8,000 collections a few weeks back, but now I still only have 8,200 collections. so, either inkstone stats are veeerrrryyy delayed, or webnovel is trying to inflate some of the stats to make you feel better about how well your novel is doing. (or a bunch of people are adding and deleting my novel from their library...? which is...... very strange, b/c I can't imagine what the reason is behind that?)
I've also noticed that webnovel seems to have a bug that automatically adds any book I tap to view the synopsis of in my library, though I never clicked the "add" button. maybe this bug explains some stuff.
CONSPIRACY #4: the aliens are coming.
the unknown population in the "gender" stat of inkstone is truly startling. (I have 40% for mine, have seen other people with much more). as a result, I believe that webnovel is being invaded by aliens...
anyone else have any conspiracy theories? please do share so we can gather together some of the most questionable events that happen on webnovel. >:]
