As far as I know, cmiiw, points are only useful to leveling up. And for me, who's already in level 6, points are pointless. I wasn't ambitious enough either in the past, I didn't even realize when I was leveling up.
And the fast pass system and the reduction of coins giveaway are actually a way to force us to top up. But, hey, dear webnovel, I still can do with reading mtl, too 
I'm now at a point where I've become more selective with what I read (more than 3000 chapters? Goodbye!), And getting less coins won't annoy me anymore.
