Veronica8 peppermiiiiiint! The extra kick is so nice when you’re tired. I haven’t had oolong in a hot minute and now I want it uwu I hope you’re not overworking yourself! Take a breather and have ‘nother cuppa tea~ xD
Rak0 Lurk Lurk
My office has a free fruit and snack bar too, so I have stuff to go with the tea. Had to seriously control myself for the first few months...
kazesenken That’s great! Most workplaces that I’ve seen only has a drink station and not many provide snacks for free. Guess it’s fine even if they only have one type of tea
Haha, I work for a big tech company. They bribe you with incentives.
I didn't know what it was either until a friend recommended it
It's oolong green tea, premium because it's produced in Taiwan's highest altitude tea production area, and it's becoming rarer and rarer nowadays (or at least so was I told). The appearance of the leaves is deep green, and tightly rolled in small pellets but will open nicely after you infuse it.
The taste...? Hmm... How can I describe this and do the tea justice?
Autumn came to mind when I smell it. It has this earthy but also fruity aroma. Like a forest in the fall. The flavor is refreshing, crisp but also balanced by natural sweetness, and has a flowery finish as well as a creamy aftertaste. I don't know if that makes sense
I found a video, maybe interesting for you to watch:
Cantiara Thank you for sharing this! I’ll definitely check it out when the opportunity arises (by that I mean when I have money)!
Cantiara So it’s like biluochun tea? 🤔🤔
Oh lord, y'all gonna make me get all tea geeky up in here.
I'm currently enjoying some organic Earl Grey that I've slow-steeped at about 185F, which is perfect for drawing out the richness of the black tea without masking the high notes of citrus and bergamot.
One of my fellow tea-snob friends also got me a couple ounces of loose leaf Bohea grown of the same strain that was dumped during the Boston Tea Party. Steeped at 212F for about 4 minutes, it's breathtakingly complex.
Also really dig some Jasmine Oolong, though I'm all out at the moment T-T
Clowniac That sounds wonderful!
I was just about to comment that I’m really into Earl Grey too right now. Clowniac
I had some at a restaurant, and I realized whatever brand I previously had just didn’t match up. I’m not so fancy with the brands I get or being careful with how I brew. Although it’s very cool, and for tea lovers I recommend korean manhwa Duchess’s 50 Tea Recipes. The translation updates are slow though.
What brands do you all like? I just get almost everything from Stash teas now. They’re so fragrant!
The Earl Grey I was drinking is Stash Organic, actually!
Stash, without a doubt, the best non-loose-leaf tea brand you can buy, full stop. Nothing else I can find easily on store shelves comes close to any of their stuff. Their chai especially is remarkable.
There's a manhwa on tea? Oh no, oh no- time to go binge read.
Where you able to get what brand of tea they use? I also tend to keep the tags/packaging in my wallet or journal for future references. Some of them are also just pretty so they stay in my travel journal as cute decorations or page markers.
A local cafe had this tea sale this Holiday so I stocked up on a lot of Bailsur. The tea isn't my favorite but still pretty good, I stocked up primarily bc it was 40% off so much of the "Tea books: which is gorgeous packaging for gifts. (and just as a tin/box to use yourself)
Chryiss i really like Duchess's 50 Tea Recipes. Recommended!
Chryiss I get most of my tea from Lipton and Twinings. I’d go for more expensive brands if I have the money to splurge, though. Stash isn’t available at the local mart I usually go to, but when I find them I get them.
That's actually the brand that my office has for the different teas. I usually just drink the Green Tea, Jasmine Blossom and occasionally the Earl Grey.
I only have 1 expensive tea out there in the office. I too am glad they like them but I'd be pretty heartbroken if they stole my good stuff. I keep a can of Japanese matcha out there but no one is legit enough to like it. Oh well more for me.
Mostly it's whatever tea bag I wanted to try- when I search discount dealers I can occasionally find some European brands I like. (I get excited when I find Whittards. For herbals I enjoy Heath& Heather. I can never find my favortie Dutch tea bc....well they fancy)
Typically I prefer Asian teas since that's what I was raised with, especially oolongs. Strong teas are great, I adore an aromatic puer!
My dad and I argue about what's classified as red tea vs black tea since language barriers with Chinese/English. But he always claims that 's right bc he's from the tea farm. I have to let him win bc he's the one providing me with nice imported tea from China/Taiwan.
I suppose in return he secretly steals all my first flush Darjeeling. (he always knows which one is 1st flush $$$ even if I remove the packaging and store them in airtight tins)
CCmei Oof, they’re losing out. I mean, free matcha? Who declines that? I didn’t really like matcha in the beginning, but my best friend is a huge matcha fan, and she recommended me to this nice shop and turns out the reason why I didn’t like matcha was because the ones I bought prior were bad. That, and my brewing skills suck lol.
I love Whittard’s too! They have the nicest packaging. They have a store in one of the malls I usually go to, but they’re out of my price range so I rarely ever buy them.
Don’t flame me for this, but sometimes I water down my pu-er They’re great but there are times when I just can’t handle the taste, especially when I have headaches.
Also, it’s great that you’re sharing your love of tea with your family. Whenever I get a more expensive tea my parents tell me I’m wasting my money but they still drink it so
CCmei I’ve read the manhwa too. It’s about a tea enthusiast who got reincarnated into another world as a bullied duchess. After reincarnating, she spreads her love of tea all around, and changes the opinions of the others (‘cause everyone in the country she lives in thinks tea is a drink for barbarians and that coffee is the greatest). It’s fun.
CCmei Yes!! I actually lost the original site where the fan translators uploaded, (accidentally exited the window somehow on my phone...) but I found it again here: https://365manga.com/manga/the-duchess-50-tea-recipes/
There’s only 17 chapters translated so far though, a shame because it’s really quite good. But there’s many more raws on Kakao that I’m tempted to just read by looking at the pictures. But it doesn’t really work well ofc. And it made me long for the other stories on Kakao that looked really good. >_< Ugh, just another reason why I ought to learn Korean haha
Persona 4 made up a book all about tea and tea ceremonies in their codex called The O-Cha Way. There's a BL manga where the MC is a tea ceremony master XD.
Tea is cool. Actually, it is with ice. I've got a hankering for peach-oolong ice tea now.
Veronica8 Yeah! Iced teas just hits you differently. It’s especially nice on a hot day. Flashback to those days back in high school when I would go around with a huge bottle of iced chrysanthemum tea because it’s just too damn hot outside... yum.
