Procrastination.

This is one of my biggest flaws, not only mine, but I believe that many other people also possess this shortcoming. I often find myself filled with many ideas while lazing around, but when it's time to put those ideas into paper. BOOM TOTAL BLANKNESS! EMPTY!
I mean, those ideas are still there, vaguely roaming inside my mind. I just can't put it into words and then the vicious cycle begins again. I say later, then later again and then tomorrow. For the entire day, I feel super excited about writing all my ideas down but when the time comes, everything kinda dies down.

I just want to ask how you guys deal with this kind of problem... I cannot go on like this... I need some pro tips in my life 😩

I think you should break away from that barrier that is stopping you. Once, I am like that I like to delay things and stuff. However I realized that procrastinating will not help me in my tasks and goals in life. It is better to fail than not do anything at all. Think positively in your goals and do your best. Since you are writing, it is best to write every idea you have in whatever medium you can find. May it be paper, notebook, laptop or a desktop computer or anything that has word processor or even notepad.

Everything starts small, do your best writing in small details first. Trust me, it will become something big before you know it.

Allen_Clay012 I do that, I write a lot of notes on my phone, sometimes I also forget what I wrote and surprise myself. I'm the kind of person who kinda needs to latch to the moment because my bad habits tend to catch up to me, totally making me forget about stuff... Actually... maybe the problem lays with my memory? I tend to be more forgetful about some things rather than the others. Lol. maybe my brain has few GB and refreshes a lot 😂

Same. I usually just keep reminding myself that I have to do the thing I’m procrastinating on doing, and sooner or later I’d start feeling guilty for not doing it so I do it. Guilt-tripping yourself works like a double-edged sword, though—sometimes it just makes me more demotivated to do it lol. But I do it anyways... eventually.

Arrange ohhh. That's really a virus that was so hard to get rid of. I mean, I procrastinated a lot. Especially when it comes to writing. And the last time I procrastinated, it took me almost two years to get back on my novel.

I get what you mean when you say you have ideas in your head, it was roaming all around, that you wanted to write it to make it alive, however, when you are about to write you don't know how to start. I just learned why. It is because the thoughts/ the ideas are so scattered. It was so fleeting. And if we delay it, we tend to forget those thoughts. Until it became blank.

So here what I advise you to keep yourself and myself writing.

First. Sometimes we need to force ourselves to write. Like wolf said we need to break on that barrier. Because I promise you if you keep delaying you will become like me, who need years to overcome it.

Hiatus season is a no-no. Do that once your drafts are done. Make sure you have chapters (ideas) for your novel. Before relax and read another novel. We need food for our souls.

It's better if you have a scheduled plan. It helps me a lot. Like writing a chap every day.

Before you write, make sure you have the five whole chapters ideas ahead of you. If you are a forgetful person like me. Make a note. Like just some keywords. And you will surely remember it. Well, I know there's more but my reply will become longer.

You can relax but don't procrastinate. :)

Congrats for overcoming your procrastinating habits. I'm struggling every day with mine.

I'm too perfectionnist and easily distracted, so in the end i often work under pressure when the stress spiked to a level where it can't be ignored any more. Not healthy at all. Every day i'm saying to myself i will never do that again, but the day after it's all forgotten.

Arkinslize haha I get you. Like you write when time is running out. Not healthy indeed. But after some time it will be better.

              Hopefully<( ̄︶ ̄)>

Arrange procrastinating is my demon too.

Creative writing is a hobby for me, so I guess I'm always with reasons to why I shouldn't be writing. Especially when others around me don't understand the value of writing creatively. Suppose I'm a bit of a rebel to have kept myself going in the craft for so long.

I guess I've learned a balance to on/off creative writing. I generally work on an easy-to-achieve daily writing goal of at least 200 words of story content. Even if it's just dialog.

There's times I can't write. Like now actually since I'm away from my PC and story mechanics. I see a need to take a break to renew energies. Or go old school and pen ideas into a paper notebook. When I can't physically write a chapter, I'm noting on story design or researching for it.

I guess note down the ideas and come back to them. Or start to add some high level outlines to ideas and see if a story line develops.

                Hope that helps.

That is an interesting case of procrastination. It's like procrastination and writer's block is a byproduct?
My only thought on this is to remember those ideas somehow. Taking accurate and detailed enough notes is a start. If the ideas are still kind of there, write down what you do remember and if you can't put it into words, briefly put a low-quality sentence to have the idea there. Come back to it after a bit and see if being away gave some answers. I do this with homework, but it could work with writing. Maybe try not to think too much about the words you will use while you are away.
I can't really say much more because I do not procrastinate when it comes to writing (although I procrastinate with everything else in life). I enjoy writing and I also trained myself to think about the novels only when I am writing, which was so difficult.
I wish you luck as you battle the Beast.
