On Qidian, all signed novels have a GIFT function.

On Webnovel, some translated novels have no GIFT function at all. Why is this?

This is very odd and weird and in my opinion not very smart. What if a reader want to reward the authors/translators? Why does Webnovel goes out of their way preventing readers from rewarding?

Make it easier and have all translated and all signed original novels have gift function (similar to Qidian in China).

Extra revenue means more money for the authors and the translators and the publishers. More money means more novels will be translated in the future. Which is good for readers. More choices.

    Here is a hypothetical example on why Webnovel should have the gift function all translated novels and signed novels

    Reader A has a lot of money and is reading "World's Best Martial Artist" and really like it. This reader want to gift 2000 Coins (about $20) to the author/translator. But sadly this novel doesn't have this function.

    Reader A: oh well...I want to reward but they wouldn't let me

    The loser of this hypothetical scenario is the AUTHOR, the TRANSLATOR and the WEBSITE

    It is astonishing that this simple function hasn't been implemented on all translated novels. Qidian came out with the GIFT function for all signed novels back more than 10 years ago.

    I'm pretty sure they were only intended for original stories at Webnovel. Not sure why. Maybe as an added encouragement for writers to keep posting their chapters in Inkstone.

    To be honest, this function isn't used much recently. In the past, many readers for originals would use the free SS to gift original books. With the removal of free coin gains, this feature is not a first thought any more. Since a lot of coins will go to unlocking chapters first. Not a big deal for MGS books. For those that rely on donations for earnings, the loss of gifting is a big blow.

    Gifts are associated with money. Webnovel can't send me money unless I allow them to by means of a contract. If there is a contract then the novel is signed.

      I asked this question before.

      It might sound ridiculous, but some translated novels don't have the gifts function simply because the WN team forgot or never bothered to activate it for them. And since most translation teams are paid a flat rate, these teams never bothered asking WN to turn the gift function on either, especially because when free SS was still in place, most readers had only sent gifts with free SS. Free SS gave them nothing, so gifts sent with free SS didn't generate any income for them at all. From what I got, on average, the income generated from the gifts function was only 10 USD monthly. So they never really bothered to have the function activated.

        Free SS is gone now for the most part.

        Any extra revenue generate from gift is a plus for the author and the website.

        From a business standpoint, preventing a rich reader from rewarding the author is stupid.

        Have GIFT function on All Translated Novels

              no...they are just an example from a quick search....too lazy to search for more...

              if there are 300 translated novels...probably more than 200 translated novels don't have gift function

              ALL translated novels should have the gift function

              From the moment the gift function was turned on...all translated novels should have it. It doesn't cost anything to turn it on. Any monetary reward would benefit the authors and the site. It has been more than a year and nothing has been done. Someone drop the ball big time on this.

                    Make it mandatory that all Translated Novels have a gift function. Any little bit of extra revenue helps.

                      What the Author/translator gets from gift function is really, really low. Hardly think it's worth the effort unless every single person gifts for each chapter read.

                      For an original, the Author (I presume) would find gifting to be a huge motivational factor rather than a monetary incentive factor.
