What I like about WPC is that it gives a chance to try a hand to something out of the ordinary. I've never written historical fiction before and writing to a WPC war prompt was definitely out of my depths. :laughing:

Self publishing has its advantages. Generally it's a small business venture that requires some preparations and small capital to start up and keep running. As far as small businesses go, it's cheap.

I also like the fact, if you're after publishing your story into paperback for trophy reasons (i.e. have a copy on your shelf) or to share as a gift for family and friends, you can do that too through Amazon.

I'm a fan of IngramSpark for self publishing since they connect your work with local libraries and multiple platforms. Not as big as Amazon but eh idk I just like em. I know it's not exactly Amazon's fault but I'm kinda scared of them. ( a few years ago someone copied and pasted my fanfics from ao3, changed the names around and published them on Amazon. It took forever, a lot of drama and a group of other writers stolen from complaining to get it down)

Congrats! Finishing a book is no easy feat. And 267 chapters. Wow. Isn't a great feeling when you can see the end of your book. Also sad at the same time being so attached to the world and characters you were writing.

I definitely agree that to build up a reader base on your own is time consuming and can cost too. I don't have the money to promote out for my self publish titles, so hopefully will gain some exposure with my contract here.

I think you're in the right place for contemporary romance. It's a well read category. If you don't mind letting WN hold the rights on a contract, they can make it go far if they see your story falls within their catalogue strategies.

Just keep in mind, regardless of what kind of contract you receive to determine income method (e.g fixed rate/premium or royalties), you would be required to sign over the story rights to WN and meet certain user conditions.

So far my experience contracting my book, I guess, is easy. Meaning, that I haven't had to change my writing routines or methods to adjust to the contract. I've gained in exposure and readership. That's the big pay off for me with this experience. My story also has a chance to be exposed to other medium and gain royalties, eventually, one day. Big maybe.

Oh, man! That's terrible. I know they have a process for this, but still. The fact that someone else is stealing works and profiting, makes me want to whip out a katana and go on a rampage. I don't blame you for that distrust.

For me, I don't publish directly to Amazon, but use Publish Drive for them. I also self publish my completed works, whether I intend them for sale or not. It makes it easier for DMCA validation.

I haven't come across IngramSpark. I'll take a look. Thanks. It's cool that you can get your books into libraries this way. The furthest I could be on a library catalogue is the digital libraries via WorldCat XD.
