Both sites have their pros and cons.
I've been on Wattpad for a LONG time. There is a lot of high quality work there, they have a lot of pretty decent infrastructure and ways to interact with fellow writers. Private messaging on Wattpad is a big pro, in my opinion. I really prefer being able to talk to someone one-on-one to arrange reading trades and critiques and such. There are also more ways interact with fans and drive them toward my pages on Ko-Fi, Patreon, Amazon, etc.
I also like that I can customize the text in my story and add art and music to chapters.
Some of the tricks to get attention on Wattpad is to do read for reads, join critique/read exchange groups, and to find the community profile for your genre and submit your work to their reading lists. My short story collections get readers filtered to them by being in the library at the short story profile.
Here's a list of their community profiles: https://www.wattpad.com/480647104-community-news-updates-profile-directory-explore
WebNovel is appealing because it is easier to get attention. My work is getting a lot more attention here, but I feel the experience is lacking in many ways. Here, if I want to establish a better relationship with another writer I have to direct them to my discord account. They can't just click on my name and contact me privately. I also can't link to my blog or website or Ko-fi or Wattpad. :/
I also really don't like the fact that non-signed writers can't use italics or other basic customizations in the text of their novel. I considered signing through EMP, but I just wasn't comfortable with the contract. There's a few red flags in there that made me decide this site is just an alternative to Wattpad with readership potential.
I've been pretty active here, and the people have been very nice and receptive. I like the transparency that Webnovel has had about their contracts and the potential for writers to earn money, though I do worry that some folks might end up feeling exploited.
I also feel Webnovel is a lot like Wattpad when I first joined, so the community feels more tight knit and small, yet I do see the potential for many of the growing pains and issues that Wattpad experienced.
(not that you asked, but) Webnovel is definitely better than Dreame. They pay signed writers less, getting signed is more difficult, and there was no community to speak of.
I am still checking out Royal Road, or else I'd consider suggesting it as an alternative. :)
