Honestly I really hate it when the male lead is described as heartless and aloof but he NEVER does anything in the story! For example, I'm reading this top ranking book and the male lead is famed to be powerful, crazy, and basically a yandere in the making but when a man threatens to take his woman away, the male lead doesn't go in for the kill UNTIL the last minute and it's too late!

Or when the vampire is supposedly known to drink blood but REFUSES to drink human blood or the blood of the female lead. If youre a god damn vampire I understand you can drink animal blood but i Just roll my eyes when he goes all sappy and say oh I won't drink the blood of my beloved because I might suck her dry. Don't be shy, take a taste!

wowowubzu It's not only for vampire novels lol
Like, they say that a character has some good traits, but you don't see them in your actions. Like, the FL is smart and accomplished, but she doesn't talk or act like a smart person.
Like that, they can say that the ML is evil, but then he saves kittens from the rain and protects everyone like a hero.
However, the case you described must be to drag the plot longer. There isn't any excitement if the FL isn't in life danger, and the ML must be op to be cool (which makes everything more confusing lol). But if he saves her immediately, then what is the story going to be about?

    wowowubzu I absolutely agree!
Everyone around keeps saying he's dangerous and he does nothing scary... Also...Vampires who have hundred of years and act like the next door millennial, with awareness about the rights of the women, animals, is ecofriendly and acts totally accordingly within the morals of the current decade... Treats servants as friends and not as properties... Also, think it's interesting to talk with 20-yo persons...
C'mon, it's the same as discussing with a toddler. Don't matter how cute a toddler is, they have nothing to exchange with a senior person. The same for a vampire. A vampire would rather die out of boredom talking to a shallow girl who knows nothing. If not to drink her blood, so what?

HinataPerolada That is another matter they take too lightly (all people writing about creatures with thousands or even just hundreds of years). I don't know how a person with two hundred years but a young body is supposed to be, but surely they have to be tired and bored to the core.
A hundred-year-old person has seen a lot. A thousand years old person has seen everything humans can be or do. They saw history, and it might be all right that they adapted to technology and social changes, but they still need to make a different impression than ordinary humans.
Also, I bet immortals find everything boring and dull. It could make sense for them to get fixated on something, explore it until they become proficient and then find another hobby (including wooing shallow girls).
All the complexity behind the matter is the reason why my vampire characters have reasonable age (not too far from what they show). Ten years of difference in a couple is a lot, and it comes out in different ways (friends, hobbies and habits). A hundred years difference is too much.
Love is too unbelievable. There must be a reason behind it (like in the vampire diaries, where there is a believable reason for the vampires falling in love with Elena)

wowowubzu For example, I'm reading this top ranking book and the male lead is famed to be powerful, crazy, and basically a yandere in the making but when a man threatens to take his woman away, the male lead doesn't go in for the kill UNTIL the last minute and it's too late!

Are you talking about My Vampire System or some other book?

I hate either the male lead or the female lead changing the other into a vampire. The differences between the leads become less and basic interest is lost.

Tomoyuki Hmm, I doubt it's My Vampire System because I don't think that the protagonist/male lead there has any love interest. ( Somebody correct me if I'm wrong ) It's most likely the possessive, powerful vampire that doesn't protect his partner until the last minute. I think it's romance, at least from how OP said it lol.

RachelRuth Agreed. It didn't sound like My Vampire System to me too, but I don't know any other top ranking book that is about vampires.

Tomoyuki I think Hellbound with you has vampires (even though I read the beginning and I didn't see a trace, actually). However, it's among the tags
Also: the crown's obsession, young master damian's pet, all have vampire tags. I don't know which one the op is referring to. It's definitely a romance, though

xiaohai_23 I won't be naming the specific book. I dont want to bash the author xD

sam_8896 So true! It's more romantic if they stay human because at least one of them dies off or something and the love still lives on. I never understand turning the other into a vampire for the sake of spending the rest of their lives together its so unrealistic

Another thing I notice is that Vampires probably have met many different women throughout the process, yet they seem to fall for the female lead so easily? There seems to be little reasoning behind why they are so obsessed with the female lead out of everyone else in the world. As a cold hearted vampire who looks down on humans, it should be especially hard for them to open their hearts.

J4sper Same logic goes for CEO and billionaire stories. They are cold-hearted, wealthy and handsome men who can have their pick of any woman in the world, but they are always so obsessed with the female lead out of everyone else in the world. Why? Because she refused to look at him and chase him like the other fangirls? Really? Or is it because she happens to be the first woman he rapes (because of aphrodisiacs or whatever BS)?

J4sper Exactly! I wish they have a dcent conversation for months before emotions develop.

Tomoyuki Also men usually get tired of the conquest when he finally stops chasing her because he was after the thrill of the chase and once that's gone he's just bored and will look for more challenges

wowowubzu Also men usually get tired of the conquest when he finally stops chasing her because he was after the thrill of the chase and once that's gone he's just bored and will look for more challenges

Now I understand the logic behind harem stories... Especially harem cultivation stories. The male protagonist spends an entire arc fighting and almost dying for a woman, finally wins her heart and marries her, only to leave her behind and move to another world/realm/place in a new arc and then romances a new woman to add to his harem, because it's the thrill of getting a woman to fall for him (and she has to be some ultra-talented ice-cold beauty with jade skin from a legendary sect or a princess of a big family, otherwise it wouldn't be much of a challenge) that drives him. And the old wives are promptly forgotten.

No wonder a cultivation story of over 1,500 chapters and a dozen arcs always end up with protagonists marrying 15 different wives.

J4sper I second that motion (I really have that question for most romance stories tbh). Like where is the character and plot development ;-; WHY DO THEY JUST FALL IN LOVE REEEE

Sometimes, the book is more on the weird side, with wrong use of charm effect(and the thing that happens after xD) or scenes of blood and flesh described more than they should be. In my eyes, the perfect example of a good vampire book would be My Vampire System.

Imma save this thread as I find it most helpful. Thank you!
