You can unlock premium chapters with either fast passes or coins. You can earn 3 fast passes daily through certain means, and as for coins, they can be bought with money. Unlocked chapters don't get locked again, so you can read them freely.
Besides this, there is also the concept of Privilege chapters. Those are also premium chapters, but in novels that have them, you can't even see these chapters unless you purchase the Privilege. After purchasing the Privilege, you have to unlock those chapters with either fast passes or coins, just like any other premium chapters.
However, you don't have to purchase Privilege if you don't want to, as new chapters are still released for non-Privilege reading. It is just a way to read further ahead of others.
A few key points about Privilege: Privilege expires monthly, so it's not a one-time purchase. Also, not all novels use Privilege, and it works on a novel-basis.

The all-works fast passes can be used to unlock a single chapter from any works on webnovel. You can earn up to 3 of these daily by checking in, voting with power stone, and voting with energy stone. Also, if you check in every day for a week, you can get an extra fast pass on Sunday.
As for the single-work fast passes, they can only be used for a specific novel or comic and you typically earn those through check-in rewards.

corruptus I mean how is the chapter locked? Like I seem some novels having fewer total chapters than some novels yet it has more free chapters then some having hundreds but they have less free chapters then the fewer chapters total novels. Simpler question is how is the locking decide since, Ex: 350 total chapters and 100 free chapters and 250 total chapters and 140 free chapters
How is the locked chapters decided?

Webnovel has contracts available to let authors make money, depending on when they sign the contract is what tends to determine at what chapter a book becomes locked. That situation has normalized more recently so the lock is more consistent between books but it use to be anywhere between chapter 20 and chapter 100.
