ContesaRubia Responding to the title - because they are the ones giving them to you FOR FCKING FREE. They could throw a picture of pop in your inbox as a bonus from checking-in for all the care, and you would have absolutely nothing to say. You are not entitled to fast passes. They are something you are given for free, and as such, you have no right to speak on the topic, or even worse, dictate how they should work. Capisce?

MotivatedSloth I understand your point, however, you are being extremely rude almost attacking him. Not that I care, just observing. However, the fact is that the current FastPass system is crap, no matter if you paying user or not. It may even turn them away from the site to pirate(some probably do but not all). And yes the free users are inconsequential for making a profit but it is still good for the business to have an active user base. But now when the only way for them to read a bit for free is complete trash could completely turn those even who don't pirate to start pirating. But what can you expect from this company, they are very good at squeezing profit. Good for them, bad for the users.

      Uncle_Sheogorath

If they are so turned off to pirate the books... they would do it anyways. That's not an excuse.

Too many feel they are entitled to read everything for free, at any point they take an interest. Take the gaming platform Steam, they have sales hand over fist giving discounts to tons of games I have no interest in. Am I entitled to complain the discounts aren't tailored for me?

      Course not.

Yet certain elements on webnovel feel it is their God given right to receive freebies to exactly what they want all the time... or else they'll go steal it elsewhere.

      Fuck that noise.

Webnovel changed things recently. Fast Pass is now also a coupon to try out different flavors of novels you probably didn't bother checking out before.

As a business strategy, this FP coupon change makes sense. The only issue with the change is the limits. Otherwise the feature is still available for use.

"Fast Pass is now also a coupon to try out different flavors of novels you probably didn't bother checking out before."
People don't like being forced to read what they don't want. This forced thing clearly makes it worse, nor will it make people read other genres which they don't care about(me included). In fact, it may keep them away from them. No one likes being told what to do. But in the end, they are free users so they are inconsequential in the scheme of things in terms of profit for webnovel.

Uncle_Sheogorath Yep. Not going to disagree.

Whilst it might be a good business catalog strategy, and still available, the user loyalty is severely tested with this change without warning. The result is rantish responses on the forums.

As a business, Webnovel suck at their communications and customer service strategies. If they had that down pat, users could at least give them a warm to positive rating.

But they continue to suck at communicating their platform changes, so their users negatively advocate against them. Because it's hard not to feel at a loss and being left out to dry when something good suddenly stops without a goodbye.

Hence, Webnovel falls deeper into the negative feedback loop. Almost summarized as the oxymoron, killjoy.

            Uncle_Sheogorath

Uncle_Sheogorath People don't like being forced to read what they don't want.

And that's the element you are heavily manipulating. They are not forced to do anything. They are free to read whatever they want, and WN will still throw some freebies at them. What WN does is encourage them to look for novels in different genres. That's all there is to it. If they were to be forced, then their account would have to have their views on the other genres blocked completely. You can still use fast passes for whatever you want, you can still buy coins and read whatever you want.

Readers are not forced to do anything, drop that attitude please.

And how could you expect that? Once you notice that there are no forcible measures implemented here in the first place, your entire point falls apart.

And yeah. I'm acting in a way that others might call rude. But I live in a society where we call things as they are. If someone steals, he is a thief. If someone arbitrary decides that he is owed something, he is entitled. If someone uses pirate sites, he is an absolute scum that actively contributes to authors dropping their novels.

There isn't even a shred of respect for this kind of people in my heart and I won't pretend otherwise.

Not every reader on this site has the means to pay to read (have no job or way of earning income). So when webnovel implents a sudden change like this, it's normal for those readera to get upset. While you are not being forced to use this FP (agree with above statements, it's a strategy WN is experimenting with) I do understand your frustration now that you have even less means to read.

Even if you can't read your favourite series anymore, there are plenty of free books on this app. You just have to hunt around.

Ps: not every person who posts a complaint is acting entitled. You just have to put your selves in their situation for a moment.

MotivatedSloth If you do what the website ask and they give you something it's not being entitled its earning it. People use pirate sites because they either can't afford to pay or don't want to. If they can't afford it then some means to continue reading paywalled chapters without having to go to idk boxnovel or some shit would really help.

People who have the money and just don't want to are POS absolute scum seems like a strech because some of those people are just young and can't pay it's how I started out in highschool before I got a job and able to actually pay for chaps. Hence the fast passes, which you get for checking in or doing whatever webnovel ask you too. Again if they ask you to do something and you get compensated with fast passes you should be able to use those fast passes anywhere you want because you did what they asked whcih is how it used to be with past passes and spirit stones before that (coins now).

They also made fast-passes time limited which I didn't know until I saw a comment somewhere and checked which sucked for people like me who stocked those up. I am a paying reader and I use spirit stones first because as far as I know it helps out the author. But with fast passes being timed I had to start using those instead because I didn't want them to go to waste.

My biggest and really only issue with this is (besides being timed) that they never told us like Veronica8 said above webnovel is to put it bluntly absolute shit at communication with consumers. I am a member and it's not like I get a secret message that says hey this is happenening so paying doesn't change that fact. They seem to be more money hungry which to me just seems like they are being more businesslike which is normal but they are doing things to increase price while at the same time lowering quality or screwing over their non-paying consumers. I mean the last couple of weeks the trial reads had less than 20 chapters some had 10 or 5 or even none at all. I think one of them even had the wrong story the first 3 of it's 5 chapters. Communication in these scenario's is key and webnovel just doesn't have it.

MotivatedSloth Yes, it may not be exactly 'FORCED' however it is clear manipulation. Guidance per se from granddaddy webnovel 'directing' what junior users can use their fastpasses for.

"drop that attitude please." Well, it isn't my attitude but I am predicting that's lots of peoples attitudes even paying ones. Personally, I don't care too much about it but I have already seen a lot of people feeling like this that it's 'forced'.

"And yeah. I'm acting in a way that others might call rude. But I live in a society where we call things as they are" Do as you will as it is your right where you live but being rude is rude.

Uncle_Sheogorath Sloth is completely right on this one. You aren't forced to read anything, and it entirely up to them what they choose to give out for free. This is not to mention that with the recent changes to the bonus reward, I have been getting more All Work FPs than ever before. A typical example of "don't call the game shit just because you're not good at it".

Anyway, as for manipulation, this is every single marketing campaign used. It is hollywood dictating to you what is "beautiful", it is every advertisement and discount offered to the public. Jesus, there was a bookstore I kept hearing on the radio which was having a "closing down sale" for about 2 years.

It is facebook, google etc using preferences to market specific content towards you. It is the scandal of Amazon recording conversations via Alexa/smart speakers in order to tailor content to you.

I think genre FPs aren't all that bad in comparison. A lot of people complained and they even increased the daily check in bonus rewards.

There is an age old business tactic which is essentially "the consumer doesn't know what they want until you tell them what it is that they want"

Some of these genres have much less traffic so they would obviously like to raise awareness and attract potential customers over. They do so by offering freebies. Whilst it may mean you get one less all works free pass, it may also mean people could find a new favorite novel they hadn't considered trying before.

The problem is it IS entitlement.

Webnovel is a BUSINESS. Authors that go premium are hoping to make a little something out of their creativity and hard work.

Yes webnovel offers fast passes and the like to allow for free reading but the overall model of business is to get you to pay to read.

To put it in perspective, a candy store offers free samples of their products, originally it allowed you to sample whatever you liked in the store, but over time it found that many were simply eating the free candy and not buying anything. Thus they restricted it to a few pieces and a random selection.

Amazing someone who never spent a dime in the store angrily accused the store of being greedy, of not continuing to offer the free samples to the candy they've been exploiting for over a year. They don't have the income to support buying that delicious imported Belgium chocolate bon bon but this change has stolen that sweet luxury from their tongues. The candy shop should continue to let them have their specific free candy!

If that is not self entitlement then what is?

I understand that not everyone can afford to read in this medium... but that is a part of becoming an adult, you budget. If you can't afford a luxury, you do without. Since when was anyone OWED access to luxuries?

Darth_Xiane I personally would like to see the milestone free passes be for anything I wanted. If I spend 1000 coins in a week, I get a fp to a book I most generally would never read. I've only used one of those.. maybe.. I think I clicked on it, but didn't care for the synapses. I understand it is free, but as a paid user, I would like my freebie for spending to be something I would actually use.

                          Quietquil

So would I to be honest, hell I'd love to see the free frames for continued spending of high amounts of coins expanded as well instead of earning the same three repeatedly... but webnovel gives what it gives.

                            10 days later

They don't make it worth being a free reader, and they don't make it worth being a paid reader.

I only use this app for the trial reads at this point.

FilledWithHope for trial read? That's funny. Why would you only resort to trial read as there's so many others to read?
