I've only recently joined Webnovel to join WSA because I thought it would be a fun way to practice writing and interact with the community. When I visited the forums, I found out about the Review Swap thread and thought it would be a great way to get people to critique my work. Unfortunately, when I participated, I found that the Review Swaps thread was just a place for people to give each other 4-5 star reviews, telling each other that their novels are amazing, without even giving any real advice.

No offense to the authors, but most of the novels that get posted in that thread are not very well-written, to put it mildly (though there were excellent novels as well). Many novels had atrocious grammar mistakes and boring nonsensical plots, but they still get high reviews because nobody in the thread has the guts to give an honest statement.

At first, I was lazy. I followed the crowd and kept my reviews vague. This allowed me to save time and get more swaps, but I felt that I was doing a disservice to people by saying I enjoyed reading. I all honesty, I didn't want to get too harsh with my critiques because I didn't want other people to bash my own novel, but I've come to realize that nobody is getting better this way.

In the end, I don't want to sound arrogant (I'm not an expert author), but I feel that the Review Swap thread should be a place where people can learn to become better writers by receiving detailed critiques and giving honest critiques to others. I understand that the title is "Review Swap" and not "Critique Swap," but people should put more effort into their reviews so that the authors won't be validated for having poor writing skills. The Review Swap should be a place for people to improve instead of a place to increase the traffic for your novel.

If you are interested by an honest review, I can provide it. I'm not sure if it will satisfy your needs but it will be honest. The last time I did a real honest review, not half-honest, the author didn't even bother reviewing back my novel hahaha.

    Anyway, are you interested?

Edit: of course, I'm also interested in improving my work. So if you could provide me with an honest review too, I'll gladly take it.

Things like those weren't reliable at all, and maybe it's good if you asked others (Author) who participated in that swap review first to know if it was helpful or anything you want to know about before you entered the situation to not make it awkward.

And also, wasn't it good to see the review section of your story with honest review tho little (From real readers and not swap) but helpful? Then full of white light, praises and so on that clearly didn't even read your book?

So, maybe we should think more before entering such a situation.

Importantly, right now, authors only living nonsenses reviews / Fufufu / At least, this was a lesson /

You've... been wai... wai... waiting for me? O_o Eeeee... sorry mate I don't engage in those kinds of relationships with strangers.

Yeah, sure. I can give you an honest review. Though, once you read it, I'd advise to delete it from your review lists. It's gonna be long as f*ck.

Ah! First things first. Your synopsis. Yeah I'm already starting. Do keep in mind that what I will say are just SUGGESTIONS. In the end, you are the captain of your own ship, you decide your travel itinerary.

That part, is useless in my opinion

      #WEBNOVEL SPIRITY CONTEST 2021
      #SLICE OF LIFE GENRE

"Have you heard? There is a man who tries all day to plant lotus flowers in the Denali Mountain."
"He must be crazy, even an Ice and wood Dao Flowering Realm Expert would not dare."

"Mummy that man dancing in the water over there is not wearing clothes"
Mrs Richard decisively covers her daughter's eyes while hauling a large fireball at the shameless man.

"What is going on? Since all the answers are C, why did I fail?
Lyle watched his 20% script while resolving to report his lazy teacher to the Examination Board.

      ———————————

      1) The first thing readers will see is a god damn tag about you entering the Spirity contest. They don't care. Even if you want them to know, it's already shown under your rating. So don't make it repetitive. Same for the #Slice of life.. You already have tags under your synopsis. Even if you want to highlight it, do it through you synopsis, no, SHOW it.

      2) The dialogs and all that are great and one of them even made me crack a smile. But to my opinion, they serve no purpose. The actual synopsis begins afterward. Before reading about the tired hero my mind was trying to make heads or tails of what was happening. If you do include dialogs in your synopsis, make sure to... anchor them with something. Those are just here for the taking, or to "kinda" introduce potential characters. Again, to my opinion, they serve no purpose whatsoever. Even if it did, it wasn't clear enough for me to catch it.

      3) Anything else that didn't come to mind.

I'll start to work on your honest review after I'm done writing my chap of the day. Which will take a while as you might guess. And since I'm doing an honest review, I'll make it as detailed as I can. Though, I'm no editor, so don't expect too much.

That's not even a review hahah xD
        More like a synopsis analysis.

Should I open a thread named "Yoan Roturier's Honest Reviews"? Hahahaha xD
Damn, that would be too much work... although... It might be interesting and a good practice opportunity.

You know what? I'll open one xD hahaha.

I understand your pain, but I was in that review thread too, and after growing my reviews from 4 reader reviews to 10 reviews, I stopped doing review swaps so I could get honest reviews from my readers.

But here's something I did. I only reviewed books I saw had a great storyline and good English. The bad books, I didn't spare a glance.
I'd check your book out first before even agreeing to a swap.
I also went into the chapters, and actually read them sufficiently. I even left paragraph coments and constructive criticism, before I gave my review.

As a result, all my reviews were genuine and contained specific details about each book I reviewed. Seeing my methods, most of the authors I reviewed did same, and when they saw my book was good, some actually collectioned it.

Point: Review swaps are not all bad when done properly.

Again, you should note that it's better to give positive reviews in review swaps than to overly critique genuinely good books because your review makes up part of the first few ratings that collectively make up your general rating.
And your general rating determines whether a reader even gives the book a chance or not.

It's important to give a good book a chance to be seen by readers. Especially as there are several poor books here on Webnovel.

My tips: Critique typos and little errors in the paragraph comments. Give a good review to a good book. Ignore bad books. They shouldn't even be on here.

Come by the thread I opened, some people are already there offering honest reviews. Just check it out, might be worth your while.
Of course, I'll review yours since I offered you to do so, but do come by. Having more people on it and traffic will probably attract those who are interested in honest reviews.

          Cheers mate.

          Dark_Scholars
Alright. I'll work on yours when I'm done with others then. Humm, it's actually starting to pile up... lol. Never thought there would be so many people just on the first day...

          MimiTea
Try to ask around. Someone else might want to take up your request. Go to the honest reviews request thread I opened. I think one or two people will be interested in offering you help.
