  • Wouldn’t be cool to have other ways to get fast passes?

ImNotNarcissistic If you haven't read my novel then why did you just assume I didn't give any of that? There was foreshadowing and many hints. Plus, the whole point of death is that it's random and sudden which is why it's called the point of no return. The theme of the book was DEATH. So how can killing off a main character make no sense? It was needed at that time but readers were the ones who forced me to change it even after I killed him off. Please read the book before making any sort of judgement.

We're veteran writers here and we know what development is needed for our characters and also, when to kill them off if necessary. If the readers aren't ready for change then that's their issue. Constantly whining for new things but still preferring pitch perfect happy endings is just bs.

But what to do? That's what sells here. That's how we have to make money.

And now readers want more fp's. Like, why? It's bad enough that we are forced to conform to the general mindset for the readers so that they'll pay for the chapters and now complaining about fp's, not realizing that the more fp's wn gives out, the more authors will be discouraged from updating.

It's funny that readers can whine and complain about authors not giving them something fresh and also about lack of fp's without realizing that the authors are human beings too. Reading one chapter takes a few minutes but writing that chapter can take hours. Fp's already eat away hours of our effort and now that wn is trying to spread out the earnings for authors, readers complain again.

And you wonder why many authors left this platform.

Tea_Tae At this point, I have to ask if you have even used WN? Not as a writer, but as a client. Many of the genres are erroneously cross-typed (many legitimately as well). The majority of praised, recommended, highly reviewed works are just copy-pasted garbage of garbage I have already tried and rejected (same generic and illogical beginning with only the names being changed), translations that mysteriously decline in quality once you have to pay for them, a review system that allows writers to DELETE reviews...

Seriously, yes there are some excellent treasures here. Unfortunately they are buried admist the piles of trash and generally are not worth the time, effort, and money it takes to find them.

Maekellen I've been reading and writing on WN since 2019. I pay for coins to read and support authors so that they're motivated to write more. I don't even look at fast passes anymore because they're not providing assistance to any author.

And if you can't search for good novels, then that's your issue. The free chapters of a novel should be enough to tell a reader whether they should read it or not. You're only skimming the top novels instead of scrolling down or look at the other features for something which might interest you. If you're so dissatisfied, then just try writing a novel on your own and see how your readers will force you to stick to tropes as well. Whining about content is easy but writing it is hard.

You're calling novels here garbage but do you even realize the efforts we have to give behind every chapter? You really think that we want to write cliche? LOL. The readers make us write cliche. So imagine our frustration to see readers whine about content whereas in reality when we write something different, the readers diss us. And then the readers demand more fast passes to read our books for free.

As a reader and writer, I found many hidden gems and also supported my fellow writers with shout outs, gifts and coins, encouraging them to write what they want and not what others want. As a reader, I don't complain about fast passes because paid readers will never look at those things. They'll pay no matter what to support the authors.

So why should wn even increase fast passes? It eats our income. When we earn less, wn earns less. Which is why the genre based fp's a needed and there is a daily limit to it so that readers can buy coins to read.

As for the delete review option. Authors were bullied by many bots over the years. Haters came after our novels and spammed it, other wn users kept on spamming us with emojis and we couldn't remove any of them. Some of us even got death threats.

Editors were flustered, having to delete thousands of hate reviews and it was a waste of time for them. Which is why the delete review option exists. It wasn't the authors who wanted it but rather the haters who caused this option to pop up. Yes, some authors remove the criticisms but that's an unfortunate side effect which the spammers brought upon webnovel. Not the authors themselves.

If you don't like the fp system, then too bad. Authors seem fine with it. Paid readers are fine with it.

        Tea_Tae Not at all.

Many of the defects appear after the free chapters end. Especially notable is when the translation quality drops.

I have literally spent over an hour looking through the lists and no, it is NOT my problem. WN throws specific LN's at the reader but if you want to search for something without a specific title in mind, you have to scroll down genre lists that are not even alphabetized. As far as I can tell, there is no form of organization. You cannot target or eliminate tags to make the lists more concise either.

And even when I was purchasing coins, I still used all 3 general fp's and uses points to buy the 2 weekly. I was just trying that many stories.

Regardless of whether you believe itnis difficult to find something good to read or not (this is subjective after all), it does not change the fact that WN charges a premium without providing a premium service. If I could count on the translation quality and all stories to be completely translated, it might be otherwise.
