I've been on webnovel for quite some time and have read numerous books. It has always been a good way to quench my boredom but it saddens me that a few novels with interesting concepts are completely ruined due to horrible grammar. So I've decided that I'll try dipping my toes on editing and here I am now, asking for tips from the forum. Sooo..... If there are any veteran editors here then I would be grateful if you use a little bit of your time to give me some tips on editing. English aint my first language so my grammar is kinda trash but I'll try my best to improve

Broke_Sloth it's best to have a keen eyesight, editors should spot at least any mistakes even the minor ones so that they could change it right. Mostly, some of the authors had difficulty with past tense and present tense so you should watch out for that. A few of them are not English speakers so bugs are seen through but the most common thing is the punctuation marks are rather absent or is placed in where it isn't supposed to be. I advise you read more on grammar since there are a lot of things to still learn about English and good luck for your editing journey.

Hhm, I’m not an editor myself, but I believe editors should be creative as well. And by “creative” I mean aside from a keen pair of eyes for grammar mistakes, professional editors can even give the authors advice on their novels. Like if the development is good enough, or if the pacing and plot are logical. As someone who writes as a hobby, sometimes I feel like my work is a bit slow-paced, but I also have no idea if that’s really the case; with an editor in place, they would also be in the reader’s perspective aside from editing.
However, as the author is still the creator, editors usually give out advice based on the world that the author has built, not change it.
