Please, if there are any Chinese in the forum, I honestly would like to known what your fixation with face slapping is all about. And when the fuck will this trope wash out of the novel community?
Why are Chinese addicted to face slapping?
IAmASaltedFish thats a good question, i have no idea. but here's a good page that talks about that --> ://www.quora.com/Why-do-Chinese-web-novels-always-include-face-slapping
Never. It will stay forever.
It's too a part of the culture. A culture that has a very high emphasis on "face" aka this sense of pride and honor. It might be hard for people not born/raised in the culture to get the importance of it. Natives suffer from it, a lot.
Face slapping however is to directly oppose it. To have the power to do so.
It's giving the middle finger to your terrible boss. It's calling out your mean mother-in-law. Etc etc. In reality, though, a lot of ppl can't just go out and do that. Not without a great social price. So the 'face-slapping' trend is a big one in fiction. It lets people live out a stress-relieving fantasy they're not in the position to break out of.
