Argentina's all-time top scorer list features the greatest names ever to represent the Albiceleste national team
Argentina is not only one of the most feared national teams in the world, they have also succeeded in producing the best strikers ever.
Surely you already know, right', with Diego Maradona? Especially Lionel Messi.
But there are many more great strikers who have represented the Albiceleste.
There is still Mario Kempes, the hero in the 1978 World Cup.
Or Gabriel Batistuta, one of the greatest strikers Serie A has ever had.
However, who is Argentina's all-time top scorer? Who is the deadliest Albiceleste striker?
Let's look at the list of Argentina's all-time top scorers below!
1Lionel Messi | 93 goals
One of the best footballers ever, Lionel Messi is Argentina's top goalscorer on the international stage.
Messi made his international debut against Hungary in 2005 and since then, he has scored 93 goals.
However, his debut was memorable for a ridiculous reason: he was sent off just one minute after coming on as a substitute.
After spending most of his career chasing international silverware for Argentina, Messi finally did, in the form of the Copa America in July 2021.
2Gabriel Batistuta | 55 goals
For many fans, Gabriel Batistuta was one of the best footballers on the planet in the 90s.
This sharp striker's ability to score the most beautiful goals immortalized his name in the rich history of Argentine football.
Batistuta debuted for his country in 1991 and immediately led the Albiceleste to the Copa America title as the tournament's top scorer. He then won the Copa America again in 1993.
The Fiorentina legend scored 55 goals in 78 matches for Argentina, 0.71 goals-per-game, the best ratio ever recorded by a player from Argentina, even beating Messi.
3Sergio Aguero | 41 goals
One of the best strikers Argentina has produced. Sergio Aguero is destined to succeed at club and national level.
Aguero made his debut for Argentina at the age of just 18, in a test match against arch rival, Brazil, in 2006.
Since then, he has scored 41 goals in 101 internationals across competitions for his country.
It's a shame that the Manchester City legend's career had to end early due to a heart condition. He announced his retirement in December 2021.
4Hernan Crespo | 35 goals
One of Argentina's most successful strikers, Hernan Crespo made his international debut in 1995, playing 24 minutes against Bulgaria.
His second appearance was only in June 1996, where he played 15 minutes against Ecuador. But since 1997, he has become a pillar of the Argentine national team.
This prolific striker scored 35 goals in 64 matches for the Albiceleste.
5Gonzalo Higuain | 31 goals
Goal-hungry striker, Gonzalo Higuain, began his orbit in the Argentina national team in October 2009 when the then coach, Diego Maradona, gave him his debut at the age of 21 years.
Higuain, who was playing for Real Madrid at the time, played 67 minutes, marking his debut with a goal as Argentina beat Peru 2-1.
El Pipita scored 31 goals in 75 appearances for his country, 12 of which came in the World Cup and Copa America.
6Diego Maradona | 29 goals
Widely hailed as the best player ever in The Beautiful Game, Diego Maradona enchanted fans with his magical moves, allowing him to weave his way past defenders to score beautiful goals.
He made his debut for the Argentina national team in 1977 at a very young age: 16 years, three months, 28 days. In 1986, Maradona captained his country to a World Cup victory and won the Golden Ball as the tournament's best player.

The winner of 'FIFA's Player of the 20th Century' scored 29 goals in 80 international matches for Argentina, eight of which he scored in four World Cup events.
7Angel Di Maria | 27 goals
Ranked seventh on Argentina's all-time top scorer list, Angel Di Maria made his debut against Paraguay in September 2008.
He scored his first goal in Argentina's 5-0 thrashing of Canada in May 2010 and year after year, Di Maria has racked up 27 goals in 125 appearances for the Albiceleste.
The most important goal of his international career he scored against arch-rivals Brazil in the 2021 Copa America final in Rio de Janeiro, ensuring Argentina were continental champions for the first time in 28 years.
8Lautaro Martinez | 21 goals
Jorge Sampaoli made his debut for Lautaro Martinez in Argentina in March 2018, when he was only 20 years old.
Since scoring his first goal in October of that year, Martinez has continued to hone his skills and has scored 21 goals in 41 appearances for his country.
Seeing his goal ratio for Argentina, and with his young age, it is not impossible that this Inter Milan striker can become the best striker in the history of the Albiceleste.
9Daniel Passarella | 20 goals
It's not uncommon for a central defender to be on top scorer lists, but Arengtina legend Daniel Passarella is an exception.
This legendary defender is the ninth top scorer for his country.
He captained the Argentina contingent that won the 1978 World Cup and scored 20 goals in 60 matches in his international career.
10Jose Sanfilippo | 18 goals
Argentina's 10th all-time top scorer is Jose Sanfilippo.
The San Lorenzo legend scored 18 goals in 21 matches for the national team, with two goals in World Cup qualifiers, one in the World Cup, seven in the Copa America and eight in friendlies.
