First I need to explain a bit. I'm writing a novel as an exercise for my actual book to publish eventually since the concept is quite complicated. I need to do research which I’m doing. In the meantime I want to write something simpler.Even as an exercise it is a genuine web novel with 2k+ on average for now at least. It is a fantasy novel and by no means quirky or truly different from most.

I have 5 chapters ready to be released but I want to be as efficient as possible with my release schedule when it has traffic. So my question is. How many chapters should I write before I upload? I’m targeting 10 and I want to start before Febuari.
But should I pile up more? I can easily write more since I already got the ending layed out. I’m not saying it’s gonna be the best novel and essentially I’m here to fail and learn from my mistakes. However I like the novel idea and want to stick with it for now.

Also I have another question of lesser importance. What kind of genre would you like on this site? I’m striving now for a fantasy but I have written In a manner I can easily change it because the genre doesn’t define it. Here are a few: Sci-fi, dystopia, post-apocalyptic, apocalyptic, modern-fantasy, steampunk. These settings out the top of my head I considered naturally there are the basic sub-genres I will include.

For your first question, it really depends on you. Are you uploading on a daily basis? Thrice a week? Once? If it's daily, I suggest you have at least 7-10. That way, you won't have to feel pressure even if you have to be away for a week. You'll also have one week to edit the chapters thoroughly before uploading them.

For the second question, I personally wanted a well-thought out fantasy (of any kind preferably with a hint of mystery) that isn't just a copy paste of other novels. This is just my preference so you don't really have to do it.

I suggest you write what you want. They're just under the same category anyway so you can put it under fantasy but on your tags, you choose the sub-genres of your choice. I did the same thing.

I hope this answered your question? I'm not really sure.

Personally, I think one chapter a day is enough, well it depends I guess. Maybe you are writing 2 novels at the same time lol

Yes, you reaffirmed what I thought. I’m uploading at least thrice a week but preferably more. I will probably get fixed days for releases and have some bonus days, anyhow I’ll find a solution appropriate for the feedback.

About the mystery element. I’m quite interested in what kind of works you suggest have the subtle mystery around the plot. I have a few ideas about mysteries in the novel but a full blown mystery story is difficult to write. It all revolves around the timing of revealing the mystery and if possible the ending should entail that.

There is a ‘mystery’ in my novel but I don’t want to build up the hype for the reveal to be “Ohh I already knew that.” The novel is only as good as how the mystery unfolds. All other content will be meaningless if it disappoints the reader.

I’m interested in the mystery aspect of stories and I know from reading webnovels (the popular ones) barely have anything regarding that. Unfortunately I haven’t been reading webnovels lately. Having said that, I read most of the good ones or I thought.

Thanks for the suggestions you gave me assurance and a clearer view of what to do.

Sereinchoo That's what they say anyway but I believe it's more on consistency. You know, algorithms and stuff. Besides, I haven't been writing that long so I don't know either.
