  • You can use volumes to separate your story into arcs or "seasons." It can help readers to understand their reading progress better. There isn't a recommended number of chapters per arc/volume as far as I know.

    • Considering that the two non-author reviews on your book are from accounts that were made today, have only commented on your story, and have the exact same weird problem that you do with putting spaces before punctuation, not after them, it sure looks like you just made two new accounts to add fake reviews to your book.

As far as actual criticism, your punctuation and sentence structure is terrible. I strongly suggest running your chapters through the free version of ProWritingAid, which will catch many of your errors.

Your story synopsis is extremely generic and nothing interesting happens in the first few chapters, but a lot of people on here enjoy generic reincarnation stories so that might not be an issue for you.

      • TheUnsus Sending a virtual hug. I've felt the same frustrations you're feeling now—though, frankly, you started out with much more passion and consistency than me, lol.

I know you said 4K words of ongoing story a day is "commendable for a beginner," but in any publishing field except for webnovels, this is insanely productive for a beginner. Even in indie self-pub fantasy, which often sees people publishing a whole book a month, 4K words/day is insane for a beginner.

And then, unsurprisingly, you burned yourself out. Though I think you're right when you describe part of your problem being that you're too worried about writing something bad or letting down your audience, there's also just the truth that most human brains need rest, lol. There are people like Brando Sando and Wildbow who seem to somehow gain energy from writing for sixteen hours a day, but they're not the rule. Even some of the most productive writers on Webnovel aren't actually a single person, but several writers operating under one pen name. It's okay to be human and to have human needs for rest.

(of course, I also understand how petulant Webnovel readers can be when they don't get their precious daily [or more] chapters, and I understand how anxious that can make you as a reader feel to see that feedback)

I strongly recommend you set at least one day a week where you don't write anything at all to give your brain a break. If you need to write extra words on other days to do so, I recommend trying to do so. Your mental health isn't worth anything you'll get from this hobby, lol.

But, blech. I empathize with what you describe about overanalyzing your own chapters and caring too much. I keep trying to think of stories that I both want to write and might be interesting to Webnovel audiences, but I have a massive problem with my default writing style being full of long, convoluted sentences. If I try really hard, I can keep the writing simpler and more suitable to WN readers, but that requires me to focus much more on the story's sentence-by-sentence construction and prevents me from just writing, not caring about it, and hitting publish.

Thanks for sharing this post. I hope it was helpful to get your thoughts on the page, and I hope some random piece of what I wrote helps you feel not alone.

        • Day_dreamer1401 I have no idea what your specific cover problem is without seeing the cover. Does it meet the pixel size requirements they describe on the details page? Can you upload the image you're trying to use on imgur and link it here so I can see?

        • I think the site uses some anti-piracy measures that can make the text render weird, especially if you have ad blockers or some other scripts running that might mess with web rendering.

          • In your novel settings, underneath where you add your cover and description, there's a field where you can add tags. They won't be automatically added.

            • You can read books written by authors from very different backgrounds so you're exposed to a lot of different words. Ursula K. Le Guin uses a lot of interesting, unusual, evocative words, so I recommend reading some of her books! Also, whenever you find a word you don't fully understand, look it up and put it into a flashcard tool like Anki, Memrise, or Quizlet, then practice your definitions regularly.

              • I looked at your two stories. They need some basic things before you can begin to expect views.

                1. You need covers. Very few people will read books without covers.
                2. You need descriptions. Your cover will attract initial interest, but then people will look at your "About" section to see what the book's about.
                3. You need more chapters. Many people skip prologues and go straight to Chapter 1, and many more readers won't bother reading unless you have more than just one or two chapters.
                4. You can swap reviews with people on this forum. Once you have a certain number of reviews, you become eligible for a star rating which will make your story more attractive to readers.

Good luck with your writing journey!

                • Tomoyuki Do you have any evidence for this? It's pretty common when writing proposals for stories for other publishers to be required to write detailed plot summaries and a detailed overview of the main character's powers, motivations, and major relationships.

Webnovel has done a laughably bad job communicating what they want from people, but it's probably better to err on the safe side and give more information than they were looking for rather than potentially have an application be ignored or rejected because your application told them literally nothing more than the MC's name.

                  • King_Undead

The first things that stood out to me when I looked at your first few chapters:

                    • "Destiny" is already the name of an extremely popular online game series. The idea that a new game would come along called "Destiny" but not tied to the existing series is completely unbelievable and just makes me disappointed that the character wasn't transmigrated into the existing Destiny universe (which has incredible lore and very cool environments).

                    • The English in the story is terrible. I'm not going to give more specific feedback because there were well over a hundred errors in your second chapter alone. As with many other people, I recommend you try to master the basics of writing in English and also use the free version of ProWritingAid to try to catch mistakes:

                    • I strongly dislike the way you wrote the character sheet, but that's just my preference.

                    • The economy doesn't make much sense to me without more details. You can exchange 100 gold for $1 (I assume USD, since no more details were given), but only rich people can afford to spend real money for gold? Does that mean it costs much, much more money to buy gold, rather than the exchange rate being exactly the same? If the exchange rate is the same, then someone working even the worst-paying jobs in the US could earn over 750 gold per hour, which seems like a decent amount in the early portions of this game.

                    • I don't get why the MC is supposedly an NPC. This is a huge sandbox world where you can be all sorts of different races and the MC himself has access to quests and can fight other NPCs and buy items. Why isn't he just a player if he interacts with the game almost identically to everyone else? I was expecting the NPC aspect to be interesting because the MC would have to outsmart players who had access to many more features and powers than himself, but just seems to be a player who has unlimited uses of "God's Eye" and maybe a unique race, all of which could have easily been explained by a glitch or other system blessing.
