    Title: Maidens Of Dusk

    Link: https://www.webnovel.com/book/maidens-of-dusk_19783247105230905

    Genres: Romance/Fantasy/Action/Thriller

    Synopsis:

Hazelle found happiness in their simple, provincial life in San Marcelino. However, she was riddled with separation anxiety because of her younger twin sister, Kamille, who seemed too eager to leave their hometown in pursuit of a dream that may force them apart.

Known as the troublesome kid in the neighborhood, Darren just couldn’t get to confess to the girl he liked because of his reputation; not even after he found out Kamille was leaving their hometown to pursue a career in the city.

Both at a loss and left behind, Hazelle and Darren found solace in each other’s company. But just as they started getting used to Kamille’s absence, Hazelle stumbled upon an enigmatic flutist with a melody that brought menace to their once quiet town.

Mysterious murders started occurring in the neighborhood, and the people close to them had fallen victim to the bite of darkness. In a blink of an eye, an uncanny encounter changed their lives forever, filling it with grief, tears, and bloodshed.

In a battle against the impending doom, was their bond strong enough to defeat the enemies? Or would their feelings severe the connection they once hold dear?

BL is mostly like by female population. But so long as they appreciated the story, their gender doesn't matter.

Other Info: Set in the Philippines. This story depicts a grey side of gay relationships not everyone would dare to tackle. It's a sinfully forbidden love story. Readers discretion is STRONGLY advised.

      • A little bit of both. I tend to lean on the character's story than the plot, so I let them decide which direction the story should take depending on their own belief, desires, and fears. To me, a plot is just an external event/conflict that drives my character away from their comfort zone. But the real story lies in why it matters to the character personally and how it changes them into a better person at the end of the book (or the worst person if it's a negative character arc).

        • Thank you for having me in this contest. I didn't expect much when I joined, so being nominated came as a surprise. And being one of the winners made me really happy. Congratulations to all the winners!

        • I would like to provide my own opinion if I may. Honestly, I've been seeing @LucyPanDora complaining about this since I joined WPC#125. Albeit indirectly, she made me aware that using emoticons and special characters will get your novel blacklisted. if it wasn't for her raising this issue, I would have carelessly done the same thing since some scenes of my novel includes chatting. I would like to thank her for that through this comment.

It's truly disappointing that WN's system limits an author's creativity of not being able to use emoticons and symbols not on the standard english keyboard when they're needed. It honestly irks me that I have to write fiance instead of fiancé, saute instead of sauté, etc. in fear of getting my novel blacklisted because of it.

But I'd rather not dwell on things I cannot do or not allowed to do. I decided to just put words in brackets in place of emojis like [laughing emoji], [angry emoji], [middle finger emoji], and so on. This alternative may seem off-putting to some, but I'd say "To hell with it! It's not the end of the world if I can't use actual emojis."

Really, it's not worth the stress. I'd rather focus my braincells developing my plot and most especially, my characters because I'm a character-driven type story-teller. That's just my two cents on this topic with all due respect. :)

        • I have 2 on-going novels.

First is a fantasy novel titled Roguelier where MC is the grandson of a Count expected to become a magic knight of their kingdom, but he dislikes responsibility, dislikes hierarchy, dislikes royalty even though he's royalty too, dislikes people telling him what to do, and dislikes everyone's idea of heroism. Basically, he exists to dislike social norms, disrespects the royal family and gives zero f#ck about saving a princess. He throws shades to people who look ordinary/plain-faced/Isekai hero replicas who dream to become an op hero expecting girls to fall head over heels for them even if they are useless, got zero talent and look ordinary as f#ck. Oh, and he's got major trust issues too. He would not hesitate to run a background check without consent if you ever get close to him within a half-meter radius, and would send people to hospital for simply trying to touch his guitar. On a brighter side, he picks up trash and human trash and recycles them and introduces them to music. In a nutshell, he hates humanity, owns a bible of profanity, lives his life in his own rules and doesn't care about your opinion.

My second novel is a BL titled Playful Hearts On A Boundary Line where MC is a closeted gay introvert who got brokenhearted in the past because ex-bf/bff cheated on him. Now, he got secret hots for his hotshot workmate and gets entangled in a third-rate soap opera of relationship-cheaters and third-parties, except he's most likely the third-party. How ironic. But MC is a melodramatic dude who would resist temptation for the sake of drama and his pride, so he created a big mess by lying he's got a boyfriend, finds someone who would act as his fake boyfriend, but finds a yandere instead. And more drama ensues. And he meets a friend who calls him Baby even if they're not lovers. And more drama inside a f#cking drama ensues. In a nutshell, it's my life story. No, just kidding.

          • Constructive Criticism is good for writers. It lets them know which part of their writing needs improvement. No one is perfect. Even Stephen King or JK Rowling needs someone to critique their drafts.

What's bad is how "some" critics execute and give it. Emphasis on "some" because not everyone is like that. My point is, there's a difference between being a good critic and being a rude commenter just for the sake of being rude.

You can give a critique without sounding a total douche by doing the sandwich method. Start with what you like about the story, followed by things you don't like and need improvement, and lastly, encourage them to keep doing what they like while staying open to suggestions, because at the end of the day, everyone has their own preference and taste. They can either follow it or not. :)
