The review system is indeed, busted, and I don't see it being patched up any time soon. I understand your frustration and I'm sorry that it's having such an effect on you.

Posting the content of the review in the comments is one option (which is why you should have backups of everything , but we can take it a step further by notifying members of the fourm and discord that legitimate reviews are getting gagged if such isn't against the rules.

I typically don't advocate name and blame, but arrogant writers have a special highchair at my table. I'm interested in disscusing a community solution if WN isn't up to the task.

    • You have to understand that most people are lurkers. It's nothing against you or your talents, it's just the culture of the net.

There's an article here ( that does a pretty good job of describing the phenomena.

Not having active feedback doesn't mean that people aren't enjoying your work. When it comes down to it you have to keep plugging on for your own sake, because if you depend on the reactions of others for motivation you will fail.

      • The problem is people trying to be too descriptive, invariably falling into purple prose or positions that if followed by participants irl would look like something from a lovecraftian horror.

Instead, focus on sensations and the connections between characters. Delve into the abstract rather than the physical. "Erotic" scenes oftentimes don't pass muster because they try too hard to mirror the visual medium.

No matter how descriptive you are, the image in your head is not going to be the image picked up by the reader.

      • List updated, my apologies for the wait.

unalived I noticed that your piece had (deleted) in the title but the chapter content is still there. Was this a mishap? Do you still want a review? I still want to read what you wrote.

        • With the coming of the Roaring 20s comes economic stability for Maromar! I'm back to my for-free projects and am happy to re-open the review list for all interested. Please note that if your story was here a few months ago, I'm asking for you to shoot me a PM or shout here a re-request to make sure I'm reviewing current pieces.

          • Bleh.

I'm sorry, I was only able to spit out two reviews this cycle. Will try to get more up asap, but my time is limited. Do keep up the requests though, I'll get to everyone who steps up.

          • Thanks for the prompt responses people, you can expect the first batch of reviews by this time tomorrow.

            • Did a quick once-over of the site, you simply have to wait for them to restock. In the meantime, raise your level to get more when the cycle comes your way. Webnovel seems to be heavy in its gamification, for good or ill.

              • I'm already doing this for random fics, so I thought that I may as well open up a forum topic for authors who actually want reviews. Samples of my review style can be found via my profile.

On another note, I'm considering porting my reviews over to my main blog as well, it'll serve as a little signal boost for the both of us.

No need to look over my stuff in return. From requesters, all that I ask is that you drop a link and a short description via reply or PM. If you don't, I still might get to you, but I can't promise any degree of speed.

I don't like to discriminate by genre, but do know that I am not likely to review smut without a plot. If I refuse to review anything else, I'll make an effort to provide a reason bellow. If you don't want me to review your fiction for any reason, and find its title here, shout at me. I'll nix it from the list.

The list is now a google spreadsheet with colors, yay! (press the Webnovel tab on the bottom.

Note: if you requested a review, but are missing from the list, it's a mistake. yell at me on this thread or via PM and I'll rectify it.

1/14/2020: In an effort to keep the reviews current, I've unfortunately pushed back the old members of the list. If you still want your story to be reviewed, tell me and I'll give it priority.
