  • MotivatedSloth Pressing X to doubt. If anything, it would help the authors if more was available for free. Word of mouth advertisement is important, and reductions in what free users get reduces the amount of people saying good things about the service. This is especially the case with the lack of other forms of advertisement.

The general attitude towards this site is getting worse. Low quality standards, cash grab attempts and constantly restricting free users more, all of those contribute towards the negative reputation of the site. Giving more to free users would help that improve, and over time draw in more readers, of which part is willing to pay. If free users aren't satisfied they won't advertise the service, leading to the innevitable end of the service.

After fast passes were introduced, many authors and translators saw a decrease in their income over time, because less people join, try the novel and stick around for long enough to consider paying or telling others about the novel. Especially authors of novels with short chapters were hit by that.

The passes aren't about giving free chapters away, but about getting free advertisement, just like free coins were before. Guess what happens if there aren't enough readers to keep things profitable? Novels will get dropped left and right as nothing is earned by writing or translating.

People who aren't willing to pay won't suddenly pay because of restrictions, they just leave and move on, forever causing a lost source of advertisement. In that case, more free stuff could keep them around longer, at no cost, so they can tell others about what they liked. On the other hand, those that are willing to pay aren't obstructed from doing so with more free options. On the contrary, the free options could let them check novels they would have ignored otherwise, making sure the quality is good enough. They can then choose to unlock a novel without first having to pay to check if the quality dropped, as is the case with many novels.

    • REN The ad bonus is just xp now, which is intended. Also fast passes expire after 7 days. Enjoy this wonderful service. :(

      • Over and over, Webnovel goes out of it's way to chase people away from the platform, because they don't pay enough money. Every single time, Webnovel claims it's an improvement and ignores complaints.

First we had premium, people were worried it would become a permanent paywall. No, Webnovel said, chapters unlock for free over time! Until suddenly they didn't. We had various reductions in rewards, which made people worried that reading for free would become much harder. No, Webnovel said, we add in new rewards as a replacement! The new rewards were just much worse than the old ones, and this repeated several times now. People aren't welcome here unless they pay up.

How long will they keep lying about their intentions while pretending to improve things? How long will they hide behind people like @CKtalon who seem to willingly ignore the issues? How long will this continue before the platform is dead?

It's been made pretty obvious, the Webnovel staff doesn't care about readers or writers or editors, they only care about short term profit. If it fails, the only product that really gets harmed are the novels themselves and they will just relaunch the site under a new name.

        • CKtalon And do the devs really expect that people won't notice the rewards got reduced yet again while they lie and say it got improved? Or will they fix that too?

          • Phoenix13 The point is making it harder to read for free. They only care for money despite pretending it's an improvement.

            • You vote on what you want to see translated next. There are no chapters because it hasn't been picked up yet.

              • It hasn't updated for a month. Has it been dropped? Or is there a technical problem? @CKtalon

                • Peacecraft That isn't accurate. The adwalled ones that were paid for or watched are still unlocked, only ones that were made free before paying/watching ads were not. The ad wall was a rolling system, so only the most recent ones were adwalled. I have hundreds of previously adwalled chapters, all still unlocked.

There have been some bugs, but usually it was because of chapters actually not having been paid for when "relocking" happened.

Also you can request a mostly complete log of all paid ss and watched ads by contacting them by email, it's all there for the most part, just not listed on the site.

                  • ThyUnknownSaint As far as I can tell, it applies to any Original novel where theres a Patreon link, in which the patreon part of the URL gets replaced with *s. Other links, such as Discord links, are mostly unaffected.

                    • I noticed the word Patreon is now censored in authors notes, even for non-contracted authors. I can understand if you don't want contracted authors using patreon to release advanced chapters, but this is an attack on the income of non-contracted authors... Are only contracted authors allowed to earn money now? @WEBNOVEL_OFFICIAL @CKtalon

                    • Geass11797 It's not false advertising, as you can see exactly when any ss expires, and its also not incorrect. The day starts at the same time for everyone regardless of local time, and when it's the next day as far as the server is concerned, you will have lost that much. The servers time being used for determining when a day ends is pretty standard for online services, as it's far more complex and abuseable to depend on the time at the users location. The log shows the exact time any ss expires if you want detailed info.

Also, I am certain you got a large chunk of that 91 from the upgrades tab, cuz the dates match up. Not everything maybe, but a large chunk was. Combined with the daily stuff and the reading tab, getting 94 wouldn't have been hard.

                    • YulongYuXianTaiyin Theres actually a reason for that, the ss expires 30 days after getting it down to the second, which means some ss will expire on the same day, and some slightly after.

So if for instance, 5 ss expires just before the daily reset, and 7 ss expires just a minute after the reset, it will show 5 will expire in one day... But if you then check 5 minutes after the reset, it will be 12 lower instead of 5 because the 7 has also expired (it's seen as part of the next day as long as it's after the reset).

It's a part that does need improvement...

                      • Geass11797 That huge jump is because you got that much in one day. There was a lot of free ss available when the new version of the app got released, as a 1 time bonus, so it wasn't there the day before or the day after. You gained 14 on one day, 94 the next day and then 14 again on the day after that. The first 14 expired tomorrow, the next 94 expired the day after (showing 91 because you already used 3), and then 14 expire in 3 days.

You say you know why they expire, but you don't. The reason the jump happens is because of the reason it expires... You had a large influx almost 30 days ago, and that expires now. No mystery about that.

                      • Geass11797 That's because of the rewards you claimed from the app. It's always expiring 30 days after you get free ss. It has nothing to do with inviting people, it's the rewards under the upgrade tab combined with some of the other ss from that day. You claimed those as soon as they became available, and thus they expire soon.

It has nothing to do with what you did yesterday. What you did yesterday is irrelevant, so theres no need to bring it up.

There is nothing new here, it's been this way since free ss was introduced. It's unfortunate, but it's the result of your own actions and something you could have known would happen.

                        • Judging by the date, those stones are from you claiming all upgrade rewards from the new version of the app. You got them on the same day so they expire on the same day. If you didn't claim them all at once it would have been more spread out.
