Ledz Yes, please allow us to select which badge is shown on comments
- In Tgif 15??
Billdoor 13:35 Thursday. And you are welcome.
This may not be the case. The latest badge for me (and most everyone else) should be the TANGULA birthday badge, but this is not the one that shows up.
Is there a way to change / influence which badge is displayed in comments?
Ataroth True. [randomly changing existing world's background] is consistent with a modified "real world" rather than a game world.
RedKaizer I agree that, in general, it is good to be filial to parents. But not all parents are wise or reasonable people. I would not consider it to be "good culture" to obey foolish instructions simply because they come from one's parent. For example, maybe your parent believes that manual labor builds character and that technology is not to be trusted, so in deference to this parent you wind up shoveling sh*t instead of programming computers.

You know that the one to suffer most are the translators, right?
Karyehs Exactly. We're all complaining about the price, but not enough people realize who the actual victims are: The Translators.
If Qidian charged $10/month for an unlimited pass, translators would earn much more since the number of paying customers would grow without limit.
itsyaboii Sure. I can wait and/or read what is free. Waiting is no problem. The only downside is that I'm not supporting the authors and translators that way. So the victim of predatory pricing is not me, but the authors and translators.
I have no issue with them charging for quality entertainment. I don't expect to read any book for free unless it is from the library. I do have an issue with the amount they are charging to stay current with the premium titles.
The amount of content that any one person can consume in a day is finite. That is why business models like Netflix and Kindle Unlimited can charge a flat rate and still make money.
Therefore, I think Qidian has a very unenlightened and greedy business model. I doubt that they will die from this, but they may just have to adapt at some point.
The end of the first chapter seems to make clear that he is in a game, or a dream.
Maybe it was because he slept late last night, but tonight he had a dream where a few lines of words flashed across his mind.

Ataroth It's true that in daily interactions, you don't feel that he is in a game. Then he pulls out the "difficulty adjustment dice" or the Lottery or something every now and then. As for the rampant plagiarism and being proud of it? I'm with you 100% on being a little put off by it. My only hope is that when the game ends, and he is back in the world he came from, he will have to create original works, and the game experience will help him to do so.
CKtalon It will expire after some time
How much time exactly will it expire from Notifications?
BOB_666 So true. The current premium system is a tax on people with poor impulse control.
Pizza Parents have final say in most things, regardless of whether their child is young or grown-up.
I see that this is true, but I'm having trouble understanding why. Does it strengthen the family if all decisions are top down?
LetThereBeMagic Yes, this makes me sad also. You get just one life, so I cannot understand why anyone would choose to live it for their parents instead of for themselves. I was hoping with this post for somebody to explain why the "filial" choice makes sense for them.
Ataroth I've had similar thoughts. But we have to recall that the world he is currently in is a game, and who would not exploit the rules of a game world? If the novel ever does reach completion, it would involve the game world dissolving, and MC returning to his regular life as an unknown.
I have a question about Chinese culture after reading IRaS.
The current story arc is about playing GO in order to appease future father in law. Father in law is very biased against people in the entertainment industry, and has decided that they are entirely unsuitable for his daughter. The daughter in this case is an adult and an accomplished professional who is very sure of her own judgement.
Now for the question: When faced with a parent who decides that the one you love is not suitable, do children simply put up with it, or do they ever tell the unreasonable parent to get lost and mind their own business? If it was happening to me, I would tell the parent that while they are entitled to their own opinion, they should not think for a moment that they have any right to decide my future. What is the reality?
I'm still going through my previously accumulated stash of stones. When they are gone, I will not buy more. I'll just take what they give for free.
Qidian is greedy, and their business model is not sustainable with the current prices. Eventually they will adapt when income < expenses
If you want to make a difference, then don't buy SS until they adjust their prices or offer a premium subscription.
TL Quality is important, but it should at least be visible for each chapter, for the novel as a whole, and for each TL and Editor. Since I cannot see the score, I don't bother to rate, except to give 1 star when they clearly did a bad job with the TL/Edit
And if the free chapter of the day is one that you have already paid to unlock, then you lose.
