    If you want to read a really good original english novel, try mother of learning. Non wuxia but it is really good.

      bc I'm totally nostalgic, I have to say that my favorite is 神雕侠女/The Return of the Condor Heroes which is a published book in Chinese (and adapted into a drama 9218901820918 times) but I think it should count as a novel. :') It's super old but sooooo good. here's a good english translation link right here if you wanna check it out.

      otherwise, this story also made me cry if you're looking for some angst to read! it's short but sweet.

        yaoyueyi I have seen Condor Heroes listed so many times as a very good read. But the fact its so old sometimes stops me from reading it. I don't know whether it is similar in style to the cultivation novels of now.

            2someawsome ok, so it's not a cultivation novel-- that's one thing for sure. it's just wuxia, a super popular genre where there ARE fantasy elements such as exaggerated internal energy, flying, sealing meridian points, etc. etc.
            there's always a lot of action in it, but heavy romance too, and the genre usually focuses on loyalty, revenge, honor, and etc.
            so, it might be similar to cultivation in the way that characters have a growth process where they usually start from super weak to strong-- there's just no defined system to it.

            I would highly recommend at least reading five chapters though. :D it's sort of the basis for modern Chinese fiction, and being old doesn't make it boring-- I would say that the plot is the most interesting and complex of what I've seen so far.

                I don't have a favourite exactly. On Webnovel my favorite is Monster Paradise, but on Wuxiaworld, my favourite is Martial World.

                  yaoyueyi I started reading translated novels because of Wuxia. Coiling dragon was my first ever. I have tonnes of Wuxia and xianxia after that. The only reason I didn't want to read it because I thought it might be too slow. But I think I could at least try the first 5 chapters.
