  • Webnovel and Patreon

Recently had a bad streak with the novels I've been reading. Most of those have been using both Patreon and Webnovel, and recently some translators have been replaced, and some authores just dissapeared (OEM, TTNH, Soaring of Galaxia, Daedaulus). I get a bed feeling every time I see the word Patreon used by authors or translators.
I understand that having a parallel Patreon account is a killer for Webnovel, since there is no incentive for people to use the app, and watch sponsored videos etc., but still...
I might be just paranoid, but I would like to ask if there are other people with the same impression that Webnovel/Quidian might be making life difficult for Patreon users?

I don't really know about Patreon. I don't know how to use it. I am on webnovel ( Apkxiaanita) and Webcomics.co.id with Anita pen. It's just that I'm not lucky here at all. I will do the same because of finance. If WN are willing to contract me, I will not go and stay here

Just taking a break sorry for the lack of warning. When the quality is slipping I need to take a break and recharge

I would assume he is going to come back. I don't read his things, but I would think that he is still updating on his Patreon since he is getting money there.

I know it all depends on the author. I am currently looking into Patreon, but would still update free chapters here for the novel. All in all, if the author isn't contracted, they have no reason to continue updates here unless they are doing it through the goodness of their heart. It can be annoying as an author if you have to deal with drama. I know Skully_ dealt with a conflict with another contracted author on the site. It might have left a bad taste in his mouth. I have no idea what the real situation is. This is my personal opinion. If he has a discord I suggest you join it and ask what's up.

As for translators.... beats me. I have a friend that translates and it is easy for him, so I really don't know why they can't pump out chapters faster.

I looked at Skully's Patreon. Doesn't seem to be updating there either. He might update his Discord, but I didn't check there. I do hope he comes back. It seems fairly common for authors to take a short break and never come back. But if anybody comes back, I'd expect it to be Skully. Still, seems of he hasn't given any additional status updates or anything for the past couple weeks. He had said he'd start posting again on Sunday, which was 2 weeks ago...

I noticed MasterRabbink is missing in action as well recently. He had said he got sick. I hope he's feeling better, but it's also been over a week since he said he'd probably start posting chapters again.

Myumara, the Elder Scrolls: Naruto fanfic author, has also been missing for over a month after taking a week break.

Unfortunately, I think it's just all too common for authors to not want to come back after taking a short break. Then they just go missing completely as a result. Most of us already work full-time, attend school, etc. Writing on top of all that uses pretty much all the remaining free time, leaving little time for reading and other hobbies. For this reason, I think I'm going to keep writing my book in a straight shot. It's harder swinging back into a routine than never breaking it to begin with.

Yeah, I don't ever take a break. Writing is a true life change and style that you have to commit to. As of now, you are one of the older ppl on the forums that I see. Granted I have only been around for about 7 months as an author.

They say that it takes about 3 months to make something become a habit, so once you start doing it don't stop!

I agree though, Skully_ doesn't seem like the type to stop. But I wondered if his clashing with you know who made him lose interest...

BabyTanuki SnoozySloth I think I completely understand.

I just want to let off some steam and write something funny suddenly! Then take a break and do lots of other stuff.

Then I remember I have to write daily chapters and 10 chaps a week.

And I worked till 1030pm last night and still had to get a chapter out!
            🤣😂

But to be honest, I think part of my problem is looking how much further I am from the top instead of how far I've come from being the 300s...

Yeah, I know the feeling. The higher you climb, the further away the top feels. Ironic, lol.

Ty for the replies. I never moan about missed chapters, cause I know how hard it is to write and please ppl. Novelsaga (OEM translator) also posted that they were going premium, and not even a week after they were sucked by Quidian. Patreon is great for authors and translators alike, but does nothing for Webnovel. You need webnovel for publicity however, cause starting with just a Patreon account and a blog can often be super hard to attract ppl so there is the compromise. As for Skully I did read his posts and I wish him the best! May he make a great living out of selling novels and books.
I was just fearfull that Quidian went full ret...d and started ending authors and translators with Patreon. I always assume the worst case scenario, hahahah. Hope its just my crazy imagination 😏
