I'd like to draw attention to the fact that Cthulu Gonfalon is a terribly translated novel.
Now, don't get me wrong, I absolutely adore the story, which is why I believe it deserves to be translated with a minimal degree of competence. Consider the following:
Exhibit A: Very odd formatting, the result of copying and pasting from a document without checking the result. Reading it is jarring.
Exhibit B: Incorrectly translating 'dominion' as 'collar' repeatedly, and failing to see that the word 'collar' makes 0 sense in context, unlike 'dominion'. This is a rookie translator mistake, arising from the fact that both words have the same character in Chinese.
Exhibit C: Shoddy use of English; words are seemingly randomly mashed together, without any attention to the flow or how it feels to read. It's almost like this text never got edited in the first place.
Exhibit D: What a mess this one is, let's start at the beginning. In the context, 'illusion' should be 'illusionism'. 'From the first glance' is an incorrect use of the idiom, it should read 'At first glance'. 'God always educated his believers to watch yourself' presents a discordance in person, and should be written as 'God always educated his believers to watch themselves'. The typo 'theri' is an obvious misspelling of 'their'. The word 'stuffs' should simply be 'stuff'. In the context, 'locksmith' should be replaced with the profession, 'locksmithing'. Same for 'teachers', which should read 'teaching'. Finally, they never explain the term 'Jianghu', which might not be familiar to less experienced readers (the term appears earlier in the novel, but is never explained in a Translator's Note anywhere).
The aforementioned are just a few selected examples of what is, overall, an absolute mess of a translation. Please, please, get someone to translate this gem of a novel with the love and care it rightfully deserves.
