I was re-reading one of the novels i had unlocked up to ch.448 when suddenly i ran into locked chapters? Starting at ch.72 even though i had already read, and thus unlocked, all the chapters pre-449.
Now i have been using the phone app for a while and noticed that most, if not all, of the now locked chapers i had unlocked back when you could continuously unlock chapters by using the watch ads feature. I would like the chapters restored to the unlocked status and would like the reasoning behind locking my previously unlocked and read chapters.
The reason I'm posting this is lack of response when i tried using the help features e-mail function on this problem i ran into.

Sincerely,
John34404

You read them for free, yes. You didn't unlock them, i.e., they were free to read back when you first encountered them.

CKtalon I unlocked them using the watch ad feature which counts as unlocking through spirit stones ever since the conversion happened. I just want my progress back as i am a free-to-play only using the fre spirit stones that are a valid currency.

I am just warning because regardless according to US law, under RICO, you cannot charge money for a service (in this case a chapter or something unlocked with spirit stones a recognized currency) that someone payed for usung a feature that counts as currency (this would grandfather several people in) or was free at time of joining (it also couts as a gift) and not give them it (in this case the chapter). The moment one does it woud count as fraud, conspiracy, carelessness/negligence, and Racketeering. Also the file date for such a suit is withun 20 years of incident and to action is any time the plaintiff desires.

      A more buggered,
      John34404

John34404 You also probably remembered wrongly because the ad system was a rolling system. The chapters become free as more chapters are released from Webnovel's side (as an offer or promotion, whatever you want to call it), so if you didn't visit for a few days or stockpiled them, many chapters become free, but you didn't actually make a transaction to incur that law..

CKtalon Did you collect any ad revenue from the result of me or any other person watching the ad with the promise to be able to view (unlock) the premium content, yes, then it was a transaction under US law. You essentially, even now with the watch ad option, hired me to watch an ad for the unlocking of the content. Its just back then, judging by how much the chapters in concern cost, you payed me alot more per ad.

"as an offer or promotion, whatever you want to call it" is an blatant admission that it was a limited time special offer/promotion to your customers, that as previously stated you had a legal transaction with under US law... did you not track those transactions?
Furthermore, no person (nor company) in US law can take away something given as a gift (promotion) without it being in legal terms theft or fraud.

Ah just remembered the case that first? applies such rulings the federal EA? FIFA/sports video game currency case. Its been geting referenced more often now a days for such willing transactions.

          Sincerely,
          John34404

John34404 Yes, if you actually watched an ad, those chapters will be unlocked for you, but if you started reading some time AFTER the book had ads (somewhere around 31 July 2017)), many chapters would have already been free to read, but not unlocked. There was no way for you to unlock them, since they were already made 'free to read' by the rolling adwall. Only the last handful of chapters were locked, allowing you a small period of time for unlocking.

Example for LOHP, the book went adwall around Chapter 222 for 2 chapters. By the end of the next day, 223 and 224 was locked, 222 was already 'free-to-read'. Readers who started having to do transactions from Chapter 223 daily without fail will see all their Chapters from 222 to 81 locked with the retroactive lock. So a few days of not being around would amass dozens of chapters that cannot be unlocked/transacted due to this rolling adwall. This proceeded to about Chapter 500+ when Premium began. Only then did this rolling adwall stop.

The book you are referring to will be better to diagnose the exact dates.

CKtalon Ok on my account ch.72-196 of ELotCL are now locked and currently has a very small amount of sprinkled unlocked chapters after that where i did not want to watch an ad and used spirit stones to unlock those chapters, until a solid unlocked state that starts when you changed format to spirit stone only ch.370+. It more than seems that all the chapters i unlocked watching videos during that promotion are now locked, especially considering im a avid reader/watcher of series i find interesting enough.

John34404 You most likely started reading AFTER 196 was made free to read (the adwall progressed past 196). That puts it around Dec 2017. If you had stockpiled or stayed behind the adwall, you would have locked chapters now.

CKtalon Understood, will 'drop' the issue, and trying to read the series then.

Especially since you guys gave no understanding of gift law and the fact that according to those laws you have stolen a gift you have given... and im waiting on some things...

yu_ba_bu_neng Ya, cuz the company has legally screwed up via gift, currency, and promotion law and is too greedy to accept it till it goes to court. Combine that with the new digital currency and other digital cases, it hinges on a few current cases and their rulings, but i can see a class action or greater being formed on this Topic that has made many lose most if not all goodwill towards the company.

Calculation wise using the current spirit stone rate of conversion into real money just by this series I've lost about $60, during the 'promotion' which was just how the app worked for more than a year where things became free as per gift law. If just my one series i have calculated is $60 imagine all the chapters that were free for account holders that according to my estimate is an amount more than $2,500 per person. But can be fully calculated at a latter date.

The final nail in the coffin is the apparent lack of records on the company's side, because if there were such records it would have been easy to settle these disputes using them as part of account features, but i can see the idiotic forgery of a record from such a thing at the moment.

John34404 There are records. You can always ask for them. There was another huge thread about this previously, and eventually, it's just a memory mistake. ie., just because you read it doesn't mean you actually unlocked it, since the chapters were already there free to read. No transaction was made, so none of your laws are effective.

John34404 same for me here...i was browsing one of the web novels i unlocked before but it was locked....i can't read some of the chapters that i've unlocked before....actually new novels are getting shorter, and shorter to read freely, that's why i did not continue reading some of them....

CKtalon Gift law is always effective, you gifted your account holders the chapters by making it free, and "none of your laws are effective" in a sentence structure that is clearly intended to mock, ha.
You keep showing a clear intent to try and talk your way out of the law and its application.

Ah, i see you think you can get away because your parent company is based in China, but you operate in the US. As such I've got some Good ol' US laws for just a situation. Might as well take a look at China's laws while im at it, oh look Chinese gift law is almost exactly the same.

CKtalon I would like the records easily accessable under a tab labed my history near the my badges tab.

Isn't it just that the chapters were free to read for a period of a time and then they started charging money for them? How is that in any way considered a gift given to you? And even if it was its their own digital property + they co-own the copyrights to the stories with the authors

I really, really would like to see you sue QI over this. Mostly just for my own amusement since I think it would be hilarious. :D

Just let it be. This how they work at China. No money no gains. They have legal law. We just a free wannabe want to enjoy good wuxia story

So basically it's like this so far.
I've read many novels before when they were released like FMHM, where up to 400 chapters were free for the early readers. However, after time went by, those chapters were locked from people who weren't early readers like me. These specific chapters were not a "gift" to me but rather just the different changing policies of the translators. In a sense, you are claiming that you watched ads to unlock those chapters, which is reasonable under US gifting law. The other guy, meanwhile, is stating what I just said up above. (S)He believes that you are claiming those free then premium chapters as gift when they cleary aren't, however, you are claiming that you worked (watched an ad) for the chapter, which can be considered payment, thus making denial of the goods (chapters unlocked) a sort of scam or theivery.
I think you two are facing rather a larger issue of miscommunication.
