Hello. I just want to ask something about the number of views in my novels. I just published my novel here for a first time and then thirty minutes later, the number of reads became 1,477+ something. I shocked! Is this normal in this website? Is it true that my novel is getting visible to the users in webnovel and so that it took more than thousands the views of it in thirty minutes? Help me please. I'm just confused right now. THANK YOU :)

gabriel_tan Views are counted everytime someone opens up the novel, a chapter, or main screen back up again. So in that sense, a thousand people aren’t actually reading it. Also, Webnovel has a lot of scaper bots going around which automatically increases views. The better number to look at are collections—the number of people who put the story in their library. This is the number next to the stars icon, or it can be found in Inkstone.

View count is one of the least useful metrics on this site. If you write short chapters, you can get more views than if you write longer chapters.

In my opinion, the best metrics are comments and power stones, because they require active input from your readers. You can measure the level of engagement of your story from them, though I don't recommend you obsess over them every single day.

Exlor Okay, thank you for your response. Today, I was enlighten. Because in Wattpad, usually the metrics on that site is on how many views your story is and also the number of votes. Thank you again :)

gabriel_tan Yep, because WP counts on actual reads. You have to have click open the chapter and read/scroll through a percentage of it before a click is counted. The click counts once for author, and many times for everyone else.

Here, it's based mostly on clicks and I think a small percent of views. That's why scrapers and aggregators can boost the numbers, since most just click to access and view enough to pilfer to their sites.

Still, the views give a cool buzz even if they aren't an accurate portrayal of reader interest. :smile_cat:

Veronica8 Yes. I like the way how webnovel worked in our novels. I think for me, the number of views can also affect the visibility and discovery of our story to the readers. Thanks by the way for the info. I am glad. :)
