While reading trough the app- when I try to change the screen brightness it doesn't do anything. I have to exit the app and then reopen it for the effects to take place.
I have tried checking the box "Use system brightness" but still the same problem occurs.

There's a problem with the BRIGHTNESS LEVEL when reading novels. It is brighter than the phone's screen brightness settings. When you exit the novel or enter the comments section, the brightness level reverts to the correct one. But the moment you open a book, it becomes a few levels brighter.

This is an old bug from a few versions ago. You guys fixed it in an update a long time ago. I can't believe you used the buggy code and brought it back again.
    Please fix if ASAP! THANKS.

Am using huawei p10 plus. I thought I was the only one having this problem. The brightness is way too high when opening a book. Night time reading is nearly impossible. Opening a book is like summoning Kirin with his sun technique blinding everyone.

Luckily I have a front-lit e-reader (like a Kindle) that I'm now using. I still prefer my phone as I don't carry my e-reader everywhere with me.

I am using a Samsung S8+ and have also experienced this problem.

Yup. Brightness level is too high under 'default' settings ("Use system brightness).

I can manually change the brightness and it's okay when I read the novel BUT it reverts back to the default system brightness when I read the comments.

Seriously, they fixed this issue before, now it's back again... It gets really annoying to read during night time... We don't want the screen so bright, fix it please...

I'm still having the issue :(
From what was shared previously, this bug affects the Android app users (mostly those on Android Oreo due to the enhanced permissions).

I too have this issue. I cannot adjust brightness while in the app. It directly prevents me from using my phone settings in the android dropdown menu.

My workaround is to use day mode + invert colors for night reading. It doesn't help for comics, but it does the trick for novels. I wish there was an actual in-app solution for this though because inverted colors isn't always easy to get to in the phone settings.

Just updated my app. I can't adjust the brightness too.
