Hello, cute community.
I just want to know about the procedure to apply for an editor's post. English is my first language, so I have the confidence to be the best. It's just the chance I need.
Thank You,
Peace Out

Lonelytree Thank You, Senior.
MissVixen All the best to you
G'luck. Can't wait to pull out the whips *cough*, dough, for ya!
How does it feel to be an editor?
- No clue, but based on what the editors told me, it very much depends on the tl you're paired with.
How much work(Like time needed)?
- Same as above.
The attitude of the people above you?(Bossy or friendly or neutral)
- Very friendly :D
Lonelytree Thank you for your effort.
@WEBNOVEL_OFFICIAL It's been 30 hrs since I sent my application but no response from QI side.
MissVixen It takes some time, be patient.
How does it feel to be an editor?
Quite good, at least from my experience. It's fun working on a novel you like, reading as far as 50 chapters or more ahead on a novel you enjoy than any other readers is capable, and just chatting or discussing the novel with your translator in general. This of course, depends on the translator, and the novel itself. If you come to dislike it, it might be tough. I was once asked to help out a novel that had a harem, which I never read because they annoy me to to no end, I agreed because, well, someone needed to aid it and I had some free time, but it instantly became a chore rather than a joy. Working on that novel started feeling like exactly that - work. Otherwise, editing for me is like reading and getting paid for it. Or that's how I feel when working on my current novels. (P.S. I haven't met a translator I didn't get along well with, so I don't have any complaints about them. Any one of them is great to work with)
How much work(Like time needed)?
Really depends on the novel, its chapter length, the translator's quality, your own speed. But in general, if you took one novel that has 7 chapter per week release rate, I'd say it'd take you around four hours to do them. But keep in mind that's me really averaging it. Some do it much faster, some much slower.
The attitude of the people above you?(Bossy or friendly or neutral)?
Very friendly. You can chat with them just like with other translators and editors, though, they are busy most of the time, so...
MissVixen You'll most probably receive the result by next week's Monday.
MissVixen That's what the examiner told me~
Lonelytree
You guys have so many connections.
Lonelytree What's the difficulty level?
Is it too hard or depends on Tl?
MissVixen We're a tight-knit community, the staff :D Also what difficulty do you mean?
Lonelytree the number of mistakes. is it more, too much or less?
MissVixen You mean is it difficult to pass the test? Heard it used to be easier last time, not sure now.
MissVixen Oh, I forgot about the time difference. The next week I meant was 9th not today.
Lonelytree It's 10th today :(
#Stll_Feels_bad
MissVixen Pretty sure today is the 3rd.
Lonelytree Yup.
Wat
Well, to be honest, it feels like nothing else has really changed. I still read novels, I still scream at silly nonsensical things, and I get to read ahead. All things aside though, there's this sense of accomplishment that you've completed something that will be there for others to enjoy for time to come.
it really depends on how you edit. Let me rephrase this: Can you take a sentence and smooth it out easily? How much attention to details do you spend? Do you keep track of everything? Like, everything. This person has blonde hair and blue eyes, age 10. Five chapters later, this same person 's described as blonde hair with hint of blue in his brown eyes, but age 9 all of the sudden? Or do you mainly keep track of the bare minimum (just the names)? How good are you with your verb tenses? Conditionals and subjunctives? Do you nit-pick as to whether the sentence should be read as he had red-like hair
, or his hair was a shade of red
. Do you constantly get confused as to what the translator translated? All in all, it takes me about 30-90 min to edit a chapter. I'm on the slower side because I tend to habitually skip looking over my punctuation and verb tenses, so I need to manually look over each and every line.
Now, if that takes you longer to do, it'll take you longer to edit. Some people are fast. 10 minutes top per chapter, and they do like 100's of chapters in like 2 days.
Run. Don't look back. Just run. As far as you can. Don't turn around. There's no one friendly here. QI has a leash, and will whip you until your back is decorated with laces. It's not too late yet, you haven't given up your soul! Run! /s
All kidding aside, it's pretty great. The bosses are chill. They've been flexible with (my) schedule and we were able to reduce our translation/release rates due to real life issues (well, they haven't pull the but-your-contract-states-that-you'll-be-able-to-provide-us-with-XXX-amount-of-chapters-per-week card yet. if there are any issues, we directly contact our uppers and they usually respond within 48 hours, max. Sometimes it's within a few mins if it's on QQ (I think I forgot my username for QQ :O)
As for our head editor... he's pretty much dead every time mid-term exams are up. Otherwise, he's very talkative, and if you creep long enough, you might be able to catch the elusive @Chrissy singing some songs.
And if you want to bribe anyone, bribe Chrissy. He takes Visa and Venmo. Paypal is also acceptable. But I just want a 10% cut.
Lonelytree How sure are you? HAHAHAHAHAHA
yo! MissVixen ! it seems you're not the only one who is trying for the editor's job!! haha! nice to know that i'm not alone.... damn! i thought that the high authorities if QI are avoiding me when i didn't get the notice... haha!!! thnks frnd!
JunkieOverThe_Moon 10-15 are checked weekly, so it might take a 2-3 weeks at most before your test gets checked if you submitted today. That's just how many are taking the tests, though I can dare to say that at least 20-30 percent are just trolls.
Chrissy hey, approx. how many editors or translators are there in QI total??? just asking. cause you told that at least 10-15 tests are checked weekly, then there are at least 10-15 people who are applying for it... deducting 20-30%, there is still 8-12 people who are actually giving the test... then by now, there should be millions[though i don't think there are a million translator or editors]... thats why im asking...
anyway, is the test hard or easy? do you have any idea????
JunkieOverThe_Moon
The fact that people are applying seriously does not mean that all of them pass. Only a small fraction actually do.
Besides that, it's hard to say how many of us there actually are, since not all of us interact internally. Most just do their job and never say a word outside, so I'm pretty sure I don't know even half of the editors working for QI.
DarkGem yeah! thats true!
so dude, is the test really hard or easy??? that's the real question, actually.
anyway, dude, how did your test go in your time??
JunkieOverThe_Moon Depends how good your English is, lol. For me, it took quite awhile. and I've had a headache for an even longer time after it, feeling like my brain was fried during the process. On the other hand, some others did it in a few hours and were left fine.
As to my score, I don't know what it was, just that I passed. Some time after I filled it, I received a friend invite from QI staff, and we discussed how much free time I have (how much I plan to work), what kind of novels I'm fine with, and the contract itself.
