I like reading, and I think you guys have done a great job with the website and the app. However, the prices for spirit stones are way too high.

Just after finishing the first 129 chapters of Reincarnation of the Strongest Sword God, I now noticed I have to pay 9 SS for every chapter afterward (mind you that's 2100 chapters total).

Here, the cost of 50 SS would be around 65 INR, and that would let me read maybe 5-6 chapters max.
I read around 30-40 chapters a day, and there's no way students like us can afford such amounts, and that's why we shift to wuxia's free app, even though its not as good as WebNovel, but we have no other choice.

Instead, if there were a monthly subscription service, I would gladly opt for it.

They tried out that model, and the writers ended up making a lot less money. Their income dropped to less than 25% of their former income. Webnovel deemed it unfair to the authors, so they scrapped it.

they did and scewed up as normal , lots of lost payments to payments and no access ...etc etc and its not really needed if you bother to log in do daily logins and don't over-read on one site as they happen to also be other BETTER sites with storeys you can read for free ( and I'm not talking pirate ones) and they even have working sub-systems with full free epubs of comp'd novels if you sub for more then 6mths I go got a great copy of Issth re-edited as my pick and from its real release site

Reading the original thread, a lot of writers saw more money. A much smaller handful saw less money.

Generally, I suspect writers making less money is an excuse that sounds better than "we as a company make more money by not having a subscription model"

i agree but it still doesn't stop buying top up's or use other "real sites" to read which have better stories with real apps you could use that aren't pirate ones, as this site even stole from..oh sorry meant dual-hosted but in fact had sold the rights to that site and shouldn't have done here

Clowniac > WEBNOVEL_OFFICIAL a small number of authors have suffered a drop in income. This impact on some of our authors' income runs counter to Webnovel's goal to increase every contracted author's income.

This is what Piokilek, one of the contracted authors, had to say.

Piokilek "First of all, the Subscription System was removed cause it didn't work at all. Almost all authors lost revenue in those two months by at least 50%. Even if webnovel gets more money this way, you think they will keep the system that takes away 50% of authors revenue? It was basically, "the more chaps you have, the more you earn." Not, "The better your story, the more you earn." The system was just bad and it hurt authors so it had to be removed. I personally lost half of my money so obviously, I voted against it. There is nothing to hide in this matter.
About the privilege system: It's the author that set up the prices for the advance chapters, not webnovel. If the author wants you to pay too much, it's only his fault and not the system. In my opinion, each novel is different. One is better and one is worse so there can't be the same price for each novel set by the staff. Aside from the access to the Chapters, there is also a discount for the future advance chapters which authors can select. Not only you can access the chapters, but you can also have a discount on all chapters for the next month which will save you a lot of money. It's not the system that is bad, just some authors might be too greedy. You shouldn't put everyone to the same bag and call revolt. If you have any questions just shoot. ;)"

Best to hear it straight from the contracted authors' mouths and know the actual truth, I think. Webnovel actually held a discussion with authors, and most of the writers were against the subscription thing, it seems.

Clowniac No problem. It was a big thing among the authors at that time.
