My point is the author and translator have a family to feed.. as for wuxiaworld and qidian drama, both side are wrong in my perspective, qidian has the copyright in the first place but still wuxiaworld translate without permission, until the failed partnership contract between rwx and qidian.. so which side wrong in the first place?. About how qidian revenue system strategy, it's the same with iphone, why so many people still buying overprice iphone if there so many cheap android phone. Why don't apple lower their price? If you can't afford it don't buy it, find something else. For the pirate book, do you think the author and translator will keep write if the money they get not enough to feed their family?

KoraL if there so many pirate version novel, why do i need to buy ss? . just wait, if pirate novel all over in internet, the user like me will stop buying ss. When so many user stop buying ss, the author and translator will get little money and they will stop write novel and change to another profession.. if you familiar with manga, before i know internet, i usually buy 4-5 manga/month or dvd/vcd anime (no pirate) . But look now, how many people still buy manga or anime? I forgot when the last time i bought those stuff And i guess the author get a lot of fortune now from pirate manga and pirate anime .... So if you realy appreciate their work, buy ss to support them, if you don't have money, stop wasting your time to read novel and get a job so you can buy ss.. i work as programmer and i know how expensive to hire employee, buy server, maintenance, bandwidth, marketing, etc... and i know from novelupdate forum, qidian pay a lot of money for translator and editor so they can have a decent life. Qidian got a lot of money from investor, but do you think it is free money, their investors want to make a ton of profit... If they don't got a lot of profit, why they want to invest and spend a lot of their money? And if i the founder of qidian why i want to build company if i don't get a a lot of money? I rather join Green Peace organization or make my own non profit organization... In my opinion maybe qidian china already make a lot of profit, but qidian international they still burning their money...

hecharles Actually, all of the authors whose books I've bought, I pirated first. It works out for the authors because I never would have found them if there weren't pirated versions. Of course it also means I only support authors who I think produce quality work.
I would like to argue that the Qidian authors don't actually care about Qidian International since they wrote it for their Chinese audience. The income from international is probably simply an insignificant bonus. The translators on the other hand might care, but there are fan translators who seem to care a lot more than some translators here, and they do it for free.
The company certainly cares, but if they choose to get money out of people in a ham fisted way, then that's their own fault.

As for anime, crunchy roll has huge profit margins from subscriptions and ads, and they pay royalties to the authors. I'm not sure how manga is doing, but I know quite a few people buy them for collections. Heck, if LMS ever gets another English publisher, I'm going to buy the whole series.

As for the get a job comment, my income is probably at least within 80% of yours. I simply pity those in lower income countries where buying a few SS is the equivalent of buying a meal. And if you don't think that's a significant proportion of readers, then far too many people are far too generous when rating translation quality.
