Hey guys, is it okay if my novel is Eastern and Western mixed? Because I only know western character names but the places, I know a few. Will it confuse a reader if the character name is western and the place is eastern or vice versa?
Names of Characters, Places, and Cultivation Stages
From my point of view as a reader, it would be quite confusing.
Because if their name is western, of course we would imagine the background, the way the characters behave and talk, their appearance, etc like how western people do.
Same for the eastern name.
But it is different if the character is born in eastern with the blood and dna of western people

That shouldn't be much of a problem as long as you indicate the situations. Your potential readers will make that knowledgable deduction provided they are aware through author's note or any other means. How you blend all together is what really matters anyways.

I don't think it'll be too confusing if your world building and character development are above average
May I know the name of your novel? I'll like to read it when it's out, since it sound creative
Zhindo Its fine. Iโve seen a lot of writers on here mix Chinese names with English names. Itโs no biggie at this point lol.
But honestly I think itโd be cool if there where more novels with just Chinese names to make it feel more realistic
I don't there is a problem as long as you know what you doing. I mean I have read stories where authors where both English and chines writers and they used English name or a mix and it was OK. The problem would be for Chinese readers since name have meanings and it would be too obvious if you write and a Chinese name and it comes out as weird one.
ThyUnknownSaint Thank you for your reply
Zhindo as long as put an explanation regarding your world or the cultivation into the story, i think there wouldnt be any problem for me tho.
Sorry, it is just bc i have read too many messed up cultivation novels that it damaged my frail brain.
Good lucl with your novel, having a special trait in your story is good too
