‘Aight, I’ve been lurking around the forums for so long and I’ve always seen people complaining about how ‘expensive’ it is to be a reader on this platform. Guess what? You’re wrong.

You only feel like it’s draining your pockets because you have no restraints. :)

I can attest to this since I’ve been a reader here for a long time and never have I ever spent money (actually I did, like 99 cents but for some reason it doesn’t register in my purchase history so it doesn’t count heh) or was forced to spend an exorbitant amount of money into this platform.

Therefore, I’mma tell you how I managed to do that.

1. Log in Everyday and Save Up
It is literally that easy. Just pop into the app once a day, sign in, then exit. Maybe do a few of the other tasks in the rewards section or check for updates. Let you spirit stones or coins or fast pass or whatever stock up until it reaches to a point where you can easily binge several chapters at once. Patience is virtue, or whatever.

2. Limit Your Reading to Only Very Few Selections at a Time
Out of the many, many translated novels, I’m only actively following... uh... two? I can’t quite recall. Better yet, switch to an original novel since they’re most likely free. Basically, if you can’t afford it, you don’t need it. Think about all the food you could’ve bought instead! Idiots!

3. Show Some Love to Novels Outside of Webnovel
Webnovel isn’t the only platform that offers a selection of translated and original content. There’s the OG Wattpad, Royal Road, ScribbleHub, Tapread, AO3, and even the wide archive of independent translation groups in NovelUpdates. You can’t tell me you’ve been on Webnovel but you don’t visit those other sites? What are you, an uncultured swine?

4. Don’t Link Your Credit Cards or E-Wallets to the App Store
If there’s less convenience in doing micro-transactions, then you’d feel less inclined to spend your virtual-but-real cash on it. Luckily, I can link my phone number and use my prepaid credits to buy stuff on the app store, and since I barely top-up my prepaid I really don’t feel like spending it on anything else other than for extra mobile data.

That’s all from me~

Oh, and you can also migrate to other platforms or something. Nobody really cares so please stop spamming the forums.

  1. You do know fast pass last 7 days only right? And the reading reward now they remove for shitty points which is barely useful at all. Idk where you get coins for free now other than friend invite. The fact that im reading webnovel means i have limited friends and im tired of creating new email for me to send for just 50 coins which last for 5 chapter-ish

  2. I guess you could do this but nowadays half the original novels (the non fan-fics) are becoming premium and needing coins to be unlocked. So basically now we are down to just reading fanfic for free. Sadly most of those has half-assed plot which exist just to boost MC's coolness or revolve around harem. If i want to read smut i wouldnt be here, there are so many better sites.

  3. So you are telling me to not spend a single cent on webnovel is to find novel outside of webnovel? Genius!!

  4. Why not just uninstall. If an app makes you unlink your credit card from google play just to prevent you from spending, that app is toxic.

Im just tired of Webnovel blatantly trying to rip me off. From back in those days where you can actually read for free to now where only less than 1/4 of the content is free.

And stop stroking Webnovel's dick. Nobody cares

RandomPasserby96 wn does. I bet it makes them feel good. Good enough to treat him like the rest of us.

Tbh this has all the marks of someone aiming to get a top pinned post on the forum by being overly helpful despite the fact that his advice is basically:

    1. Read only one chapter a day!
    2. Read less.
    3. Read elsewhere.
    4. Dont use paid features.

    Seriously...

Clearly my unsolicited advice is unwanted :c

      Uh-huh. Okay.

Just dig deeper; maybe you’ll find gold. Or something. Idk

So you are telling me to not spend a single cent on webnovel is to find novel outside of webnovel? Genius!!

Yep. That’s basically it. Don’t put all your eggs in one basket, m’dude. Let’s be honest here, Webnovel ain’t that great. Aside from a bit of reading, writing and forum-surfing, I don’t really use it much. There’s millions of books and novels in the world and you’re telling me you’d rather spend your money on this site? Really? How am I the dick-stroker when I barely even do anything to benefit this site. Hm.

Why not just uninstall. If an app makes you unlink your credit card from google play just to prevent you from spending, that app is toxic.

I’ve never even linked my card to the app store in the first place. Didn’t know that not linking your card to the app store means that a specific app is toxic. The more you know, I guess.

Yeaaah... no. I don’t like social interaction or attention so that has no merit for me. I’d rather just fade into the background thx and pls don’t @ me cs it’s burdensome and it makes me skek and anxious thx

Just be a casual reader who has no expectations or move on to the next capitalist corporation. Or whatever floats your boat. Do whatever you want, I’m not your mum. ╮(╯▽╰)╭

ihateyounot Don’t bother dear. It’s not worth it to argue with people like this. I understand you’re trying to be helpful, but everyone’s up on their high horses and podiums right now without trying to see the other side and then just leave it at that. (I don’t want to see you tangled up in any unnecessary beef like in other threads where you get bashed and name called. >_<‘) We can share opinions and criticisms, but this aggression and bashing of others is rather off putting (not you, you put your thoughts nicely and politely imo).

It’s true that it’s harder to read paid novels for free with this update, but again, if you don’t pay money for paid novels, I don’t see the position to argue otherwise have any sway. True, some places offer free stuff. But considering people also complain that stories don’t even finish/get completed... 🙄 Is not reading an incomplete/dropped story even worth it to argue like this? I wonder... Well, like you said, plenty of other options are out there. If you’re broke, fine (I am too but I’m not complaining about not getting freebies), read on pirate sites if you wanna beat the system.

In short, my real criticism on this update is once again on WN’s poor management and communication with their customers. That’s why it’s so heated right now. They’re doing a terrible job ignoring and properly transitioning the free reading system so it’s not too much of a shock. For paid readers, they need to sweeten the deal. (monthly subscription of some structure like X books free is the best suggestion for both sides that I’ve seen so far) Free readers? I got nothing.

I don’t approve of WN’s business structure and management, but they’re not a charity either. In fact, they’re following a typical business strategy: offer free stuff to make an audience base, and then shift audience to consumers aka customers who pay money. Saw this move coming as well as all the ad hominem (personal attacks) toward those that disagree. Agree to disagree has momentarily died as well as courtesy.

Imo, what WN should do is to improve the current structure, quality, and consistency of novels first. Then maybe people on the fence will actually feel compelled to pay because they feel it’s worth their money. Also, then any free/paid changes won’t have much if a standing with the argument that this reading isn’t worth it and thus is too expensive compared to other places or physical books. (Who are at the front of these poor business decisions and customer service anyway?)

Meh, and that’s my two cents. (I meant to stop at the first paragraph lol, but since everyone is sharing their opinion, might as well input my thoughts too. :p I figured here is better than some other hotly contested threads lol.)
